Gas in my diesel

Full service my butt! No window washing, no oil check, no full service. I hate it when I have to fill in Oregon. I can't ever get a full tank (I'll get that tank vent one of these days!) because it takes so long. Sometimes, if it's busy enough at the station, the attendant goes to another car. Then I work the nozzle and hope no one catches me. One place told me I can pump my own diesel but not gas. Most places will let you pump your own gas in a motorcycle. They'll take the nozzle out, then hand it to you. They're afraid of scratching the tank or drooling fuel all over.

About one month ago at an Exxon station the tanker filled the regular fuel tank with diesel and put regular gas in the diesel tank. They had lot of tow jobs and they paid to have everybody car and truck taken care of. Then they had to have the regular fuel tank and the diesel tank pump and flushed. It made the news. The tank cap were mark right, so don"t know if the tanker driver still has a job, it cost his company a lot money. Don"t know if there insurance company would pay.

The good thing about it, I think I can drive clear across either state and not have to fill up as long as I cross the state line with a full tank. Just say "NO" to ORaNJe fuel.

I recently talked to my son-in-law who runs a station in the Portland, Oregon area. It's now up to the station whether they allow self-serve or mini-serve on diesel, but that only applies to diesel, not gas. If the station makes diesel mini-serve you still can't pump your own. He has gone to self-serve diesel and he forbids his employees to pump it because he doesn't want the responsibility for a mis-fill. Perhaps it's a step in the right direction. I can see most stations selling diesel in Oregon wanting to go to self-serve diesel to eliminate the responsibility for a wrong fill. Also Oregon is going to mandatory 5% biodiesel in the Urban areas on July 1.

Right on. Never been to Oregon and don't plan on going to NJ but if I should happen to venture across that way I would certainly not stop for fuel. bg
