Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Gas in the fuel system

Yesterday I had a major brain fart... . I put unleaded in my truck. I had it towed to the dealer and they said the the VP44 might be fried because of the gas and that it will cost about 3 grand to replace. Would gas ruin the VP44? The dealer is going to drain the tank and replace the fuel filter and then try to fire it up first. Any input would be appreciated.

Did you run the engine after putting gas in the tank? If not then there would not be a problem. A reman VP44 is running around $1000.

It ran about 1/2 mile and quit

I have fixed that issue on many trucks and have not found a bad VP44 yet. It isn't healthy but it is not sure death.

Thanks for the info Bob. The dealer is also putting in a retro kit fuel pump in the tank since it is out.

I would not let them put one on my tank
