A question about shutdown

fuel mileage and break in

Finally my first post! I feel like I have taken the next step in life!

I think this membership will be my 2nd best investment ever (next to the Cummins that is)!

My question is about the mileage gain your supposed to get after engine break in. I have a little over 17,000 on my rig now. I have done only moderate towing. I have been getting the same mileage since the day I drove off the lot, about 16. 5 mpg. Do I need to wait some more miles or is this mileage whats expected when running dry. The only mod I have is 4" exhaust.

Thank You for any replies

Unfortunately, the 24 valve engines haven't seemed to do as well as the older 12 valve design as far as mileage. I would guess at 17k, you are probably getting what you are going to get.

There have been some posts that indicate a fueling box can actually help your mileage numbers, though. I think certain boxes advance the timing to get the gains. I'm not sure though, so don't take my word for it.

I am planning on an Edge EZ. Hopefully real soon.

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem with

the break in. It does feel quite a bit stronger now compared

to then. But no mileage gain.

My truck gets about the same mileage as yours. Average about 17 mpg in mixed driving (mostly town), best was 21 mpg, worst was 15. 5 mpg. I've heard they get better after they are broke in, mine hasn't yet. Not that I'm complaining, I'm happy with 17 from a rig this size, beats a big block gasser.

On the 2000 I had I kept detailed mpg #. Mileage kept improving till 60000 and then it topped out. Started out getting 16+ when I got it,then 18+,jumped 19+ and finally level out in the high 20 to 21+. I have 15000+ on the 03 and its averaging in the 19+ an occasional 20+.
