Has anyone tried to gasket match the exhaust housing on a turbo, where it connects to the exhaust manifold? Is there any benefits or a bad thing to do? I just remember when i installed my pdr40 and holding the gasket to the exhaust housing, that the feed holes in the exhaust housing are way smaller than the openings in the stainless steel gasket that seals it to the exhaust manifold.

I did it on my ATS manifold. It was'nt too hard to do. I have no idea if it added any HP. I doubt it. Joe D says you are wasting your time if you do it.

I just did my ATS manifold also, dont use the gasket as a template, cut one out of paper and match port to port, mine the turbine housing was smaller than the manifold, sharp edges in the exhausts path will overheat and start cracks.

I did the exhaust port manifold to head (manifold only) match and the turbo to manifold match (machined both). ATS manifold.

The holes at the gasket surface are not the choke point. It is where the ports in the housing open to the turbo fins, and that point is where the size of the housing is measured. You don't want the gases to expand and then contract in the housing.

Joe,

You also don't want them to "tumble" or whatever you want to call it as they move to get around a corner... . you want smooth flow.

The gasses won't expand then contract... they would be able to enter the housing undisturbed, then choke down as they go thru the housing.

Smooth flow where possible is better.
