Gasoline &/or Fuel price protest

Paid $1. 93 today for #2. I have also slowed down a bit. Travel 35 miles each way to work on a 4 lane Freeway (each direction) and just putting the cruise on 70mph in the right lane sure makes the stress level go down. Most folks here in Silicon Valley are running at 10,000 rpm, driving 80-90mph while talking on the cell and chugging down the lattes. I choose to take it easy and don't regret it. I've noticed better mileage and it's not too hard to push the steering wheel cruise button a time or two to go around some big truck or old timer doing below or the 65mph speed limit...

Well I would guess that some of the folks reading these post here Rusty have read the post in the "Concerned Citizens and Exhaust Smoke " post and they read where I said that you who be alright if you live about one and a half to a two hour drive from any big city in Texas you would be alright . Don't think Texas is turning into California Rusty , go get your shelf two to three of the right traffic tickets (thats two to three points per ticket depending on the type of ticket, a total of six points a year and this started Sept 1 , 2003 ) then you might figure it out . He!! I might know what I'm taking about about , every time someone farts in Austin I get paper work on it . Be careful out there on the Highway with that Big Travel Trailer you never know when you might run out of points .

For the life of me I can't fathom the point you're trying to make. I haven't had a traffic ticket in 20 years. Are you trying to say that you somehow have the stroke to change that?

Oddly enough, I dont get a lick of difference in MPGs going 55, 60, or 70. But with the roads around here, and my HD 1 ton first gen, I cant go much over 60 anyway, and keep my pickup together. I have been getting about 18 mpg lately. Going to put the 18 back on the turbo, bump the timing a hair, and see what that does. Got 21 with a blown head gasket last summer around here, locally. I see no reason to get less than 20, other than city driving and crummy local fuel. If I could gain 5 mpg by dropping 15mph, I'd do it in a heartbeat, within reson of course.



ON hazards- I have an aint who drives 55, occasionally 60, everywhere she goes. Last time I rode with her (and I mean the LAST time), we had a line of 25 cars behind us (narrow, winding 2 lane rd), and she wouldnt pull over, let them pass, anything. If we'd been in Chicago, we'd have been shot. She said they just need to get over it and not be in such a hurry. She needs to go the speed limit once in a while. People are incpable of getting over anything around here. If they could let stuff go, there would be nothing for hte sheriff's dept to do. If you're on a 4+ lane highway, there is no reason you shouldnt go 55-60 if you want to in the right lane; let them pass. Heck, you're in an "underpowered" Cummins Dodge, anyway

You are ate up with it Rusty . I don't give a DAM if you get one ticket or three tickets BUT if you do you will come to the conclusion real quick that this state is turning into California,well it will probably take you the whole 120 days to figure it out or it might take you a couple of more years to figure it out when you will have to get your truck sniffed to get a safety sticker and you cant buy nothing but ultra low sulfur diesel . Try to prove a point to you but I can see that I can not prove a point to someone that knows everything , well maybe not everything cause you obviously don't know about the point system and If I did have the "STROKE" I dam sure wouldn't let it be know here or any where else . Bragging hu , coworker at work hasn't had a ticket well over twenty years till last week the 18th at about 9:30 in the morning . He ain't bragging no more , I guess his luck raneth out . Oh and for the record I didn't have anything to do with that .

Well, now that this thread has been successfully hijacked, yes, we all have different opinions about Texas, but take it to your PM's for cryin' out loud.



Anyway, I don't think I can justify driving 55 everywhere, but I will probably start to slow down a bit, like maybe 65 on the highway. I generally don't tend to get too much above 70-73, just because the truck doesn't like it too much, so a 5-8mph decrease won't seem like all that much to me.

I've been doing the 55 thing for about 6 months, definitely less stress. 35 miles one way to work 6 or 7 days a week, I noticed my mileage had dropped from around 21 ish to a steady 19 ish. Cleaning the IAT didn't make a difference. The only thing I can attribute it to is the SJ D25's(couldn't be the injectos or box). Anyway at 55 (60 drafting) I get a consistent 21. By the way I have one stretches of 65mph on a two lane hwy, I still do 55. I travel oh hwy 65 which has turned into another blood alley, aka hwy 99, for those of you who live around Sacto. I usually leave for work around 0400-0415 and I don't leave work till 1830 ish, so I don't have too much traffic to deal with. Sometimes I will have 10-15 cars behind me on the 7 mile stretch of road between sheridan and lincoln that is 65mph, I usually catch the ones that pass me in Lincoln, which is another reason not to go fast. .



By the way, used to get about 125 miles before the needle would drop off the full mark, now it doesn't drop till about 200, also hit 500 miles on a half a tank, I filled up the other day at 1/4 tank with 695 miles on the clock. Put in 32. 4 gallons, I don't usually run it that low, but what the hay.

Mornin CFAR. I know the Sacr area and go old 99. I've completed my first week at 55. I did a lot of town drivin' over the weekend and the needles off the full mark already. I made a speed run to Vegas to help a friend yesterday and took my goldwing. At 75-85 mph I still only used about 12 gallons of gasoline. But that's the reason I took it. It was cold in some places like the Cima pass but what the heck.

Hey everyone lightin' up. If you want to drive 55 and save some and hurt them some then do it. If you want to run 80, go ahead. No big brothers watching here. Please, everyone shake hands (we can do it on the net, can't we) . Remember we have one thing in common. It's called a Cummins. Just dream of a new 325/600

That all depends where ya live. If I were to do that I would be suckin' it down harder as I would be Lugging the motor and spooling up more boost (Boost = Fuel consumption) If the turbo is at minimal bost at a reasonable rpm you are maxamizing your drive.
