Does anyone know how hot a gasser engine can safely get... specifically, a turbo engine?

Mark,I don't have any real numbers,but would have to think it would be much the same as a diesel. Many of the metals and aluminum are the same and should melt at the same temps.
 
There are variables, such as air flow, compression ratios, etc, that influence the temperature of the exhaust gasses in relationship to the heat of combustion.

That's why I don't know... I also know that the gasser egt's are much higher at light loads, becuase there's no unused air flowing through the engine cooling things off.

When I had my Grand National, we used to cut back fuel pressure to get better mileage.
I was told to keep it below 1500 F.

A couple of years ago I put together a 468 ci big block chev in an early PU with a 8-71 blower and dual quads I put an EGT in each header and it could push 1250 deg. with a blower even on a gasser EGT can be a problem.
 
The Miata turbo guys tune for 1550-1600 degrees! I believe the RX7 gets even hotter than that.
