Gauge Install Prices

I was quoted $400 bucks for gauges and install at a shop. The gauges will be DiPricol EGT and Boost installed on the pillar. Does this sound like a fair price? I would do em myself, but don't want to mess with removing the exhaust manifold.

The install directions I read say that you don't have to remove the manifold - you could tap the exhaust port in place, being careful not to drop any large pieces of metal thru the hole. The directions recommend using grease on the tap to hold the shavings and using a small pencil magnet to retreive the small shavings that fall into the port. I believe I got the directions off of this site. I don't have them with me now so I can't check. If you want me to look into where I got them, let me know.



I'll be installing four guages myself soon.

That seems a bit high but it all depends on how dood of a job they do. Most of our customers di it themselves. It's pretty straight forward, and you do not have to remve the manifold. You can remove the turbo to get all of those metal flakes out. That's easier. If you have any questions don't hessitate to give me a push. We also have an afterhours tech support # if you need.

if the 400 is for the gauges and install I don't think its so bad. However I installed my gauges (Boost, Trany,EGT) using the windshield pod a couple weeks ago and its not so bad. It took about 6 hours over two days and went really well. I too was very hesitant on drilling the manifold in place. After a long night I decided that all the guys on TDR can't be wrong so I used a gallon of vaseline and a shop vac and drilled into the manifold in place. No problems and all work great. I do have pictures post in my readers rigs. I also ordered my gauges from Geno's and they included extra directions for help. Things that the gauges did not. I used the new Isso gauges that match the dash exactly. Any thing that I can do to help PM me. Later. Oo.

I installed three Autometer Gauges last summer. Boost, EGT and Xmiss temp. in the Autometer Dash Pod. Great setup and looks like factory. Cost of parts were $265. 00. TIP: Worked great for me. Tape your exhaust outlet almost closed. Leave just a small hole for exhaust to exit. The back pressure BLOWS the chips out!! Be careful of your eyes!! The chips exit with a vengance.

Question for Diesel Manor, the lead harness for the trans temp gauge on the ISSPRO is not long enough, can you splice into the harness wire at the connector where it plugs into the probe or does this cause the gauge reading to become faulty, I really need about three foot more wire to route this harness properly where it is out of the way or more precise out of harms way.

John--------You ought to call Isspro---------they have a toll free number and it should be on your paper work that came with the gauges. I called them a few times and they are very helpful

I am truly sorry that you think my gauges look like CRAP!! Everyone I show the truck to seems to like them. Here, all along, I thought they were nice too.

Hi John,

Not a problem. ISSPRO only gives you a certain length of lead for the senders on their ele. temp gauges. So many different applications that it's hard to give the exact length for each install. Most other brands don't even come with any wire or terminal connection. You have to supply it yourself.



What you need to do is just splice in more wire to make the run. Use 16AWG (gauge) wire for both orange leads. Because the sender is a 2 wire unit, the wires are not polarity sensitive. In other words no need to worry if you don't connect them as they were before. Adding wire to the sender's leads does not effect accuracy. You can go up to 35 feet if memory serves me.



If there is anything else I can do don't hessitate to give me a push.

Ruppel try this solution for $2 + shipping before buying new gauges. LED's for AutoMeter's I even have the Green bulb socks on my Phantoms and I LOVE THEM! About to order some of these LED's just because they are so cheap and they seem like they are A LOT brighter.



As for gauges, a tech at a local st... ... . dealership did mine on my first truck for $150 + tax! ($163. XX) Oo.

Thanks for all the help fellas, I'm going to go ahead and have the shop put the gauges in for me. Even if I leave the manifold in place, I've still got the wiring to deal with. I'm sure given enough time I could hook everything up right, solder all the connections, and everything would be fine. However, I remember back to my first truck, an 89 chevy, that had wiring (done by me) that look like a dang bird's nest under the dash. I had wires going everywhere between the tach, driving lights, and amplifier, nothing ever worked right. The shop I'm going to was recommeded by a friend, and fellow TDR member, and in talk with the owner, I feel I'll be better off having someone else do the work.
