Would removing intake silencer void warranty?

Where are you guys drilling the exhaust manifold for the pyrometer??

Can I use the boost bolt from my 5. 9??

If so, which bolt do I replace with it??

Thanks, Ed

My son and I installed my gauges last week. We spent about five hours installing the gauges. The biggest problem was not having a right angle drill to drill for the probe for the EGT. We removed the inner left front fender and then had to removed the banjo bolt, twisted the water line to the turbo out of the way. This allow access to the manifold and allow us to tap the manifold for the probe. The boost bolt went into the manifold at the very first bolt next to the block. I did remove the bat wing to gain access to everything. See the attached pic's below. Hope this helps.

Gauge install

We tap into the dimmer switch wire I believe it is yellow with a black or brown strip on it. Pull the left hand panel from the dash (between the LH door and the dash). Use a small (thin screw driver) panel tool to remove the panel, (panel snaps into place) work carefully to remove. Need a 12V tester to find the correct one with the lights on and you can turn down (dim) the dimmer to off and this will tell for sure. We removed the entire knee panel being held on with two screws at the bottom of the panel. This then snaps into place, remove the hood open latch and then the metal brace behind the panel. This will open up the dash area to work and route the wiring harness along with the boost tube and EGT wires. We removed the clutch cover and drill out one hole (place a grommet in it) to route the wiring thru. This was the easiest way for us. Good luck.

There is only one bolt on the intake manifolt easily accessible. It is forward and nearest the cylinder head. That's where we put the banjo bolt on mine. Work's fine.

I placed my boost bolt in the same location. I bought mine from Geno's Garage, torqued to 12 FT LBS be careful and do not over torque bolt will break.

I'm seeing the same under hard acceleration, unloaded. Still waiting to pull the 40' 5er and observe boost and the ridiculously high EGT's.

What kind of boost pressures are you guys seeing??

I am seeing 25 PSI max under hard acceration. EGT's run anywere from 600 F to 1200 F, when the truck is in active regen. I do know when the truck is regening. Trans temp is running around 140 F. Will know more when the camping seansons starts and I am pulling my camper.

Friday I had to go from Loveland to Colorado Springs and back. About 20 minutes into the trip the pyro shot up to 1400* then spiked up to 1500* for 2-3 seconds then floated anywhere between 1300 & 1400 for a couple of miles! Is this the signature of a regen? After this the EGT's dropped to a more normal 900* for the remainder of the trip. Actual MPG was 15. 33 hand calculated, the computer displayed 16. 9

Is this the signature of a regen?

CEly,

Probably was.

I drove about 10 miles at highway speeds last week, coasted down a long exit ramp, and stopped at a traffic light. While waiting for the light I glanced at my gauges and was surprised to see my egt was sitting on 800* at idle. I was puzzled for a moment then decided it must be in regen. I got back on the interstate and drove 30 miles at 70mph. When I exited again and let it idle egt was back to normal.

The mysteries of this new technology!

Many times driving through town I have seen the same thing---the EGT actuallyINCREASED to 800* at a stoplight!

Jim, nice job, looks real good. What gauges did you go with? Can you post a picture of your gauges at night with your dash lights on too?

Many thanks.

Thanks for the compliment, I will try to take a pic later this week at night and will post it on this link.

I am very lucky, my son and two of his friends run a side business called "No Limit Diesel Performance" so they do this all the time. Mine was the first 2008 6. 7L that they have done, might be the last. My son and I spent 8 hours doing the install, the hardest part was the EGT probe had to remove the inner fender and water line to the turbo.

My gauges are "OPTIX" White color dial, Turquoise LED Illumination Black Bezel. Mounted in a Dodge 2003+ Full A-Pillar Triple Gauge pod.

I have also notice high EGT temps of 1400F+when in regen, since I hand cal the fuel milage I some times hit the rest button in the OHD and can see that the fuel milage is 8. 3 or so. I think with these two indicators I am probably in regen.

My Transmission temp is being picked up thru the ACU-Temp sold by Geno's Garage.

Pic of gauges with lights.

Well after a week I finely found the time to take a picture with the dah panel lights and the gauge lights on. I could not shut off the flash on the camera so I do not know how this will turn out. I have attached the pic at the bottom of the page.

I believe you asked if I removed the water line to the turbo? Yes I did. This is the silver tube assembly with the banjo fittings next to the exhaust manifold in my pic's above. I believe on the new 6. 7L CTD the Turbo is water cooled and this is to help with the high EGT's when in regen. I know this is common thing to do on heavy equipment engines when the turbos are having issues with heat.
