I just bought 2 Optima Red Tops, from Costco :)

But I need a new Positive cable for the Driver's side battery.

Does anybody know where I can get the right gauge?

And what gauge is that, exactly?

Auto parts stores all have skinny little red ones, which I don't want.

Robert, don't know the size but Napa has or can get you any gauge/length you want. Just tell them what it's for and they'll match it.

Thanks Illflem, I was hoping you would know about this.

The NAPA's are a bit hard to find out here in Commiefornia. I tried the NAPA back in Monett, when I was back there last summer and they were unable to help me. Maybe the counter guy just didn't like me or something, but he was no help at all. I may put a tractor cable on it. Better too big than too little!

I went to a high end stereo shop and bought some 0 ga cable and Rockford Fosgate terminal connectors. I replaced all of the cables on both batteries from the grounds to the starter connection. Looks better, and the OFC construction is much more plyable than the stiff 2 ga factory cables. Just my . 02

Any good welding supply will carry any size cable you want. The one close by carries sizes from #4 to 4/0. My guess is that that cable is 2/0. They will even crimp on the ends for you if you buy them there. I just added ground cables from both batteries to a central point on the engine and to a point on the frame. I also added another ground from the batteries to the body. I used 2/0 cable and it ran 1. 65 a foot for the cable and 1. 25 each for the heavy duty lugs. I bought 3/4 inch loom and covered them all so they look factory.

I bought 20 feet and cut the cable to length and had them crimp the lugs on right at the store.

I went to Engler Bros. Auto Parts, and got a Belden 36" 2/0 cable.

Cost me $25.

Dealer wanted $55.

I put my Optima's in with the new cable and everything went great.

Robert,

Now that you have finished the install, I'll answer your wire gauge question. The red cable from the auxilary battery to the driver's side battery is 1/0. The red cable from the driver's side battery to the starter is 2/0.

If you are putting on new battery cables, remember it is dc. Use heavier cables if possible. I would use 0/4. This means AWG 0000. That is very thick Oo.
