Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) idle question

Not open for further replies.
My VP44 died last week, getting it re-built as we speak.

I want to monitor fuel pressure so it doesn't happen again (assuming that low psi was the cause). Ive been looking at gauges/ gauge setups for about a week, and had a few questions. I only want gauges at this point, no need for the extra power.

I have been looking at the options, and am down to these:

-Quadzilla (gauges only)

-Edge A2 (adding the juice later)

-Edge Juice with Attitude

Q) Does the A2 or the J w/A monitor fuel pressure for the Gen 2 trucks? I was told it doesn't.

Q) If I get the A2 now, and the juice later, will that have the same options as just the Juice w/Attitude? (I know the A2 has the GPS and the camera)

Q) Are the digital gauges as accurate as the mechanical ones, or vice-versa?

Q) Do any of these monitor fuel temp?

I'm not opposed to mechanical gauges, but Id like to have 4 'on screen' at all times: Fuel PSI, Boost, EGT, and transmission temp. I've only seen the A pillar mounts w/3 gauges, not 4, so thats why I was looking at the digital gauges.

TIA for the help guys!

I think the digital gauges are pretty neat, my dad has the bullydog outlook monitor on his '03. However, I have the 3 gauge pillar mount on mine-boost,egt,trans temp, and I also monitor my fuel pressure with a westach gauge which is mounted in what I call the little cubby hole in the dash, sits directly below the switch to engage or disengage the passenger airbag. I think it looks pretty good there, plus, the gauge mount came with it free when you get it from genos.

The Attitude and the A2 will not work without the Juice. You MUST install them both together as there are no options either way.

Now, with that said, if you are looking at that direction you should look at the Adrenaline. It does everything you are looking for and more. Then there is a special version of the Commmander that goes with it that is different than the regualr Commander.

I'm no expert, but from what I understand, the A2 will work by itself, as a monitor only. Thats why I'm interested in it. (and for the rear-view camera option)!

I called Quadzilla yesterday, they said that the Commander is also only for monitoring. I asked, 'If I buy the commander now, will it be able to control the Adrenaline when it comes out?' She said NO, they would have to write software for that to happen, and she also said it probably WON'T HAPPEN. She told me that the Adrenaline will come with its own monitor, and couldn't be used with the Commander.

As I understand, the A2 can be used with the Juice to upgrade from just a monitor to a power command center.

In my situation, I'm getting the VP44 re-built now. It will be done on Monday, 2/4. I want to install monitoring equipment, ie gauges, now while the truck is tore apart for two reasons: easier to install, and now I can keep and eye on that fuel pressure so I might be able to prolong the life of the VP44. So, I want to get gauges NOW! lol

I am not opposed to installing the Adrenaline, but I need the gauges now, power later. So, if your CSR was right, I would have to wait until the whole package comes out before I get any monitoring or power options? If the Adrenaline was compatible with the Commander, Id get the Commander now, and would be happy to wait until the Adrenaline comes out! And she said there was already a backorder and the wait would be long. I've been following the posts on TDR, so I know there is a lot of interest. I hope the product is as good as advertised.

So my original question still stands: Does the A2 or Attitude monitor fuel pressure for the '99?

OK, there is some confusion here.

The Commander does work as gauges and is a stand alone gauge package. The Commander can also control may of our boxes and many other boxes out there and has many features. This is all covered by a patent that is now 100% ours and is all the way complete.

Because of this patent there is no way the A2 can be stand alone or work with the Juice. The A2 relies soley on the Juice for everything except maybe the backup camera and GPS. The A2 gets all of its engine data via the Juice module and without it would have no way to be able to gather this data.

Moving forward to the Adrenaline. This is a whole different animal. For now we are still calling the monitor the "Commander" when in reality it is not a Commander. It simply looks like a Commander but, nothing else is the same. It allows for a lot more stuff to be done than the original Commander but, it relies on the Adrenaline just like the Attitude or the A2.

So here is what all this means. If you JUST want gauges right now and nothing else and part of your requirements is fuel pressure then the only choice is the Commander in regular form, part# CCS1000 and then you need the FPKIT.

If you go with the Adrenaline, it comes with EGT, BOOST, Trans and Fuel Pressure but, not on a big monitor. It will show you the values, allow you to set warnings and have de-fueling capabilities if needed though. You can use it without the wire tapped, or even on PL00 like a stock truck if you wanted to. You can then add power and/or the new monitor later.

This is the same for the Edge Juice and either Attitude or A2. Either way you have to get the whole kit.

On another note, who did you talk to at our offices? I need to find out who is confused around here!!!!!!

So the Adrenaline only comes with the little Recon style single display? I was planning on purchasing Commander, fpkit and either ZXT+ or Mileage Max in next week or 2. I heard about Adrenaline and was going to wait, but if that is case I will stick to my original plan. I want to be able to see egt, boost, trans temp, and fuel pressure all at once.

Thanks for clarification!
Sorry, i do not know who i talked to, it was a female around 11AM PST.

I called Edge right now, and heres what I found out:
You are correct in that the A2 will only display camera and GPS functions without the purchase of the Juice module.

The '99 model year combined with either Edge product WILL have fuel pressure gauges. Assuming you are using the Juice with either the Attitude or the A2.

So, if I purchased what you are selling as the 'Commander' right NOW, will it work with the Adrenaline when it comes out? Cause if it won't, then your CSR was right on.
~edit~
My point was, if I get the Commander today, will I have a unit that shows me Fuel Pressure, etc. NOW, and will be the controlling unit for the Adrenaline when it comes out, OR will I have to buy another display in the future? Id rather not spend the money twice, unless they will work together, make sense?
BTW, TY for all of your help!

Yes, the Commander will show FP today. Yes it will work with the Adrenaline technically but, it is not the right part for it. While the Commander will technically work it will not provide a ton of functions that you are going to want.

Let me throw another options out for you. You are in sort of a tough situation as if you end up with the Juice/Att or ou Adrenaline you are going to spend a good amount of money.

This modifies your initial request but, based on the $$ figure it might be worth a look??

We have a Recon gauge. It does 3 parameters. EGT, Boost, Trans or EGT, Boost, FP. Now, it will only show 1 parameter at a time BUT, you can set warnings for all 3. If one of these parameters should go into alarm the display will switch to that parameter and flash noting you of the alarm. You can get these for under $200.

It would be a temporary solution but, it is an economical one. I personally think unless you are hauling every day all day that a trans temp gauge is not worth anything.

The Commander is reasonably cost effective as well, even if you sell it in 6 months or a year. You will still spend 1/2 what the other options will cost you and you get what you want.

It comes with the Recon as a base model. You can add the Commander to it at any time. The Commander you will add is different than the stand alone version you are looking at. It will have 13-15 parameters as well as full TT, High Idle, and de-fueling control. Plus it will have some fueling control parameters built into it. Totally different ballgame.

So, no, you are not stuck with the small gauge. In reality that is just a really fancy switch. I just did not want to do what Edge did and force you to buy the more expensive monitoring system. If you have gauge already then fine, just use the Control Pod as a switch and nothing else.

Depending on what you are doing the Adrenaline/Commander is pretty trick. Based on what you are doin I am pretty certain it is not going to cost you much more than the other combo you listed. Street price will be just under $900 I am guessing. That is the Adrenaline/Commander (or whatever we end up calling it!:D)
