having banks pillar mount 3 gauge set up installed in my 99 1 ton... can you please tell me what the safe operating figures should be for the egt, transmission temp, boost pressure?? want to know to compare with what the dealer will tell me... thanks... .

Dave,

I can tell you that 1300 deg. for more than 30 sec. is a big no no,on your EGT's. About the trans, don't know what you have,I have manual,180 is about all I see,you probobly have a auto,I'm sure someone will chime in to tell you whats safe. Boost,we'll thats another thing,my Truck in stock form was about 20#-22#. Hope this helps.

I would run 1300 degrees on the pyro all day every day without blinking an eye, and would not be worried about 1350 for a short time (a few minutes). 16-1800 for over about 15-20 seconds is getting into the danger zone. For the trans, if you have it in the cooler line look to back out of it or get the TC locked up soon at about 250*, in the pan that will be about 200*. 300 is death on the transmission temp gauge in the cooler line, and 250 in the pan. Boost on a stock auto 99 should be 18-19 PSI, spikes to 21-22 and then drops right back down. Hope this helps.

Superdave,

I have injectors, anti defueling device, and a Power Puck. My boost runs about 6-8# with cruise set at 70 MPH/1950-2000RPM. Stand on it and it will move to 34#. The EGTs about 700 on cruise. I see spikes to 1100 degress @34# boost when I cannot resist smoking someone or something.

Auto trans, 245/75/16 tires, 3. 54 gears.

My take on it is that short runs into the high end of the egts are okay, just don't stay in long if you are over 1300 pre turbo.

Boost concerns are for the turbo self destructing and blowing a head gasket. My truck is capable of hitting 40+ psi's of boost in 4th gear and 45 + (wastegated) in 5th or above with the HX40. I never go beyond 20 psi's of boost before the engine is up to running temp (190 F on the oil temp and coolant temp). In fact, I baby the crap out of it, usually keeping the RPM's at or below 2000 and the boost at or around 10 psi's until it's warm. That, coupled with a cool down to at/below 300F before shut down has worked for me so far.

Dave,

I have minor performance mods(EZ) and BHAF to move more air. At 2000 rpm empty it runs about 6# boost and 600-700 degrees. Pulling our 8000# TT same speed the boost is about 9-10# and i have never seen the egt's over 1000. I have tried to get the temp up just to see but 4th or 5th gear in west Florida hills will not do it. The sender is mounted ahead of the turbo in the manifold.

I have been kinda curious myself how these numbers compared with others. I have 315 BFG's so my speedo at 2000 rpms says 65mph, but the gps says 75.
