Hello all, I'm a new user and I have been reading here for a while now, made a few small contributions over the last few days, but now I have a question of my own that I hope all of you could help me with.

I am looking at installing the following gauges: EGT, Boost, Fuel Pressure, transmission Temp, Oil Temp, Rear Diff. Temp

The question I have is, what would the typical readings for these guages be? I have searched for threads discussing the gauges, but I have yet to find one that covers all of the above gauges and readings. I do a lot of highway miles and I don't have a box (yet), occasionally I tow a tandem axle utility trailer with Bobcat (approx. 7000 lbs).

Any information is greatly appreciated.

I want to thank everyone for all the information I have already learned, and will continue to learn. You all are great.

Trans temp runs consistantly at 140 -150 normal running with a Maghytec pan. When Towing 10,000 lbs the temp gets up to 170.

I've topped it out at 190 pulling a long grade at 105 degee outside temp.

Egts normally run 600- 800. Gets up to 1100 when towing. I have an edge on level 3.

Hope this helps.

I would be interested in a definitive answer as well. Mainly cuz I don't want to exceed the "limits" for a sustained period. I tried talking to one of the Techs at Genos (that's where I purchased my X-Monitor). My pyro sensor is currently installed post-turbo. I was told that I shouldn't exceed 1,000* for a sustained period, but momentary spikes up to 1,100* or 1,200* are okay. Pre-turbo, add 200*. As for transmission temp, keep it under 250*. Couldn't get a straight answer regarding turbo boost. On my stock H. O. , it goes up to the low 20's if I floor it with no load.

gdbontly,

I have an x-monitor and my pyro sensor is also post turbo. The highest EGT's I have ever seen are 761 degrees. That was held to the floor at over 100 mph. I have only towed approx. 2000 lbs. since I got my x-monitor and the pyro has still not exceeded the above #. I wonder if this thing is even accurate because 761 degrees is not hot at all especially for my truck w/ all the mods.

My egt's (pre turbo) will normally run 450-600 and as high as 900 if I push it. These figures will go up towing. Boost maxes out around 23 psi. I try to keep the boost under 10 psi or so to improve mileage.

RHinds,

My truck is similar to yours except mine is an '03.

70 mph, flat ground, sea level, 40ish weather;

boost will run 5. 5 to6. 5 egt right at 400

55 mph

boost at 2. 5 egt at 375

This truck runs much lower boost at cruise than my '96.

Don't know if this is normal or not, but it's what I get.

Don't know about the others--sorry.

My SO will give 23lbs of boost at full throttle unloaded. As far as EGT, my probe is post turbo, it runs about 400 just driving around, about 300 when idleing before being shut down, I have had it as high as 750 when pulling a hill wide open. The transmission runs about 140 to 150 once it is warmed up, seems to take a really long time to warm up, it stays around 120 for a long time. Has anyone else noticed this?

Thank you all for your responses. Here is what I have gathered so far for normal operation, sustained towing long grades will increase these numbers some:

EGT (pre turbo) = 500* to 750*

Boost = 2. 5 psi to 23 psi (waste gate opens at 23psi?)

transmission temp = 140* to 170*

Fuel Pressure (from lift pump) = ?

Oil Temp = ?

Rear Diff Temp = ?
