I have a 1995 3500 and I would like to install oil pressure, coolant temp. , and oil temp. gauges without disturbing the stock gauge sending units. I want the stock gauges on the dash to still work, but also have some more accurate readings from after market gauges.

I'm planning on using electric gauges because of the distance from the sending units to where I plan on putting the gauges (in a gauge pod above the rear view mirror).

Can I tap into engine oil pressure from the top of the oil filter mount? There is a second plugged hole in front of the oil feed line for the turbo.

What about engine coolant temp and oil temp? Any ideas?

Thanks for any help,

Archie Taylor

Answer: Yes that's the easiest place. The Dodge sender is on the drivers side of the engine. There should be another port in the oil gallery near there also.

Answer: The Dodge sending unit is in the cyl head at the back on the drivers side pointing towards the fender. There is another port just forward of there , near where the intake sticks out from the head. The rear of the engine gets the hottest so you want it back as far as possible. Some people even tee into the back port and run both senders off the same port, but I prefer to have the sender directly into the coolant itself.

Oil temp is usually taken from the pan, but that would mean cutting a hole in the pan and the pan should be off to do it properly ( some people will disagree ). Shadrach

If you can fashion up a T at that point it would work fine, i have oil temp at the top of my filter, coolant temp should be able to do at one of the plugs on the passenger side of head.

Your '95 has the stock transmission temp sensor in the front cooler line. It is used to delay OD until the transmission is warm. That can be a nuisance. The other thing is does is cause a transmission temp warning light. The problem with that is by the time the light comes on your transmssion is probably damaged. If you unplug the connector and install a 1K resister in it, that will make the PCM respond as if the transmission was at normal temp. Then you can use the port on the cooler line for a temp sensor for your gauge.

Thanks for the help, I'm heading out to the garage to look for the stock coolant temp sending unit.
