Time for gauges. I am looking at the 3 pod, overhead setup kit with pyro, fuel pressure and boost from DieselManor. It says it comes with all the wiring and hoses, but is there anything else I need to install them? Also Should I get the Fuel pressue or transmission Temp Gauge?

Thanks

Bob

I'm close to finishing up my install that I got from Diesel Manor. I purchased from them the EGT, Boost, and transmission kit from them. Took it for a test drive an hour ago and the EGT is working as advertised. Can't seem to get the boost or transmission to move. As far as either fuel pressure or transmission... that's up to you. I figured that as much towing that I do, I wanted the transmission temp over fuel pressure.

I did not get my overhead gauge set up from Diesel Manor so I can not comment on their setup, however I can comment on overhead installs in general. WHAT A P. I. T. A. ! I do like the look, but getting the gauges to fit in the overhead pod and tighten everything up, and especially bleeding the fuel pressure was time consuming and frustrating to say the least.

The fit of the pod against the headliner is o. k. but requires some patience.

The biggest problem was the fuel pressure. If you do not bleed the isolator properly, it will work for about 10-20 minutes and then drop to zero. ALL the air has to be out of it (the isolator), a very small amount of air in the line is o. k. but if you do not bleed the isolator very well, you will be pulling it apart again(I had to pull it apart too many times too admit to).

I could not get my fat fingers in the pod to secure everything the way I wanted, so I cut the back off and the made some brackets to re-attach the back to the pod, this made assembly alot easier.

If I can figure out how to post pics this week, I will.

Hope this helps.

Yeah... it was no doubt a P. I. T. A to install the gauges in the pod, but I really like the look. Anyone have an idea as to why I don't get any readings from either the boost or transmission gauges? As I posted earlier, I took it for a drive and both of them didn't move. My EGT is working as advertised. Any help would sure be appreciated.

What brand of gauges are they? Is the boost vacum operated like the Isspro? You might try using a couple of jumper wires and a very small battery to try and manually get the the transmission to move. I am not sure how much current they require to move the needle, but dont put too much to them. Check the boost for leaks, kinks, or restictons in the hose or fittings.

Do you tow or haul, or are you going to bomb your truck? If so, I would consider a transmission gauge over a rail pressure gauge or get both. Temp tells a lot about how hard your transmission is working especially under big loads. I had all three (boost, EGT, trans temp) in my 01, and it sure gave piece of mind on the road with the camper on pulling my trailer. Just have the boost and EGT now with the G56, and I don't intend on bombing at this time. Not too hard to install overhead. There's lots of ingenius ways to do it. I found this tip from someone here on the TDR. Look at these photos. Pretty smart install.

BigFun-Thanks for the pic of what it looks like, I like the look. Only bombing I plan is muffler (already done), air intake, maybe a programmer or intakes... nothing major. I do plan lift and tires, again nothing major. No real towing, maybe jetski or trailor, small though.

Thanks all for the info.

I am also interested in the 3 gauge OH pod set up but I have a question for all of you first. I am 6'6" and was wondering if you have any problem seeing the gauges behind the OH factory pod. I have about 3" of clearance from the top of my head to the headliner and was just thinking I don't want to slouch down to see the gauges. For me, I am thinking of the Autometer Phantom II Pyro, boost and auto trans temp. With the 2006 ISB, I am not as worried about the fuel pressure and if I do start to worry about it, I will just get the BD fuel pressure light.

Only 5'8" here, but I tried pretending I was 6'6", did not seem to have any problems(except the air is kind of thin up there).

Hi BBlyman,

Our gauge kits do come with everyting as advertised with the exception that if you get the Fuel Pressure gauge you will need to also get a S. S. braided hose and banjo bolt to connect the isolator to your fuel source (avaiable but not incl). We don't include it because some customers want to do something a little different with regards to plumbing the fuel. If you get the Trans gauge may I reccomend our cooler line that has a fitting in it for the sender (a sender port if you will). It's a direct bolt in cooler line and there is no core charge - we don't wan tyour old one back. Another option is to use our sender extender (not on our web site yet). It allows you to use the high pressure test port for the trans sender. It's a more economical solution for those wishing to go that route. We don't include these items because you may have a Mag-Hytec trans pan and if we raised the price to incl. the extender you would be paying for something that you didn't need.

As for our kits in general, we include all the necessary hardware, wiring items, and really good installations instructions. There is a picture of the kit here: DieselManor gauge kits toward the bottom of the page. We also have avaiable the 1/8"NPT Tap and size "R" drill bit if you don't already have them. If you buy the OH mount instead of the A-Pillar we will include such things as longer lighting wiring harness, extension cables for the Pyro and TT gauge, and a right angle (90 degree) street fitting for the back of the boost gauge. As for installing the gauges in this mount, you do not need to use the mounting brackets. Actually you can't. There's no room to do so. You are supposed to just press fit them. You will have to remove the mounting studs from the back of the gauges (use a whiz wheel or similar) as they will hit due to their length. If you have any questions just give us a push. We're always glad to help.

I bought the 3 gauge Optix kit from Diesel Manor and was real pleased with it.

I also ordered the dual gauge pod mount, and installed them like this (I should get a better pic):

I got the A-pillar mount from my local Dodge dealer.

I had to modify the wiring harness from Diesel Manor a bit to get this install.

I've had these in for 6 months, and I'm still happy with them.

MD, does the dual steering column mount interfere with the odometer reading or other stuff? I don't mind looking over the gauges occasionally but wonder if they are a bit of a pain in the ...

Also, how do you run the wiring? Does it show?

I like the setup, but a bit hesitant to order the parts until I can get some first hand feedback

Thanks!

Is there any variance in the gauge brightness? Nice install, btw.

My setup, not the fanciest but works great for me. Auto Meter Ultralite series in the pillar mount and an Edge Attitude behind the mirror.

Les, the dual pod doesn't interfere with the sight lines of the odometer any worse than the steering wheel interferes with the top of the speedo, just have to adjust my gaze to read them

I ran the wiring on top of the steering column and under the pod. The pod more or less sets on top of the boost tube and wiring and it hides the wires. I don't have mine stuck down with anything, it just kind of snapped on and stayed in place.

The only mod I had to do to the Diesel Manor wiring harness was add some length to the gauge lighting wires to get them into the A-pillar. IMO, this whole install would have been a LOT harder without the wiring harness. I also ordered the boost bolt, drill bit, and tap from them.

To answer JohnJoyce's question is yes, the trans temp gauge lighting is sightly different but nothing annoying at all (maybe because it is a swept type instead of a full round?). With Diesel Manor's harness each gauge has its own dimmer control. I just set them all the same and tied them into the factory dimmer switch.

Hope this helps.
