Gauge Idea
Check out my set up on reader's rigs. I ordered the pro-pod from Geno's and went with Auto Meter boost, EGT and transmission. There are pictures of where the boost and EGT sensors went. I have the 47RE but the 48RE should be the same as far as where the sensor could be located. I dropped the pan and located the sensor on the rear of the pan towards the bottom. For the boost sensor, Geno's will send you a hollow bolt that mounts on the top of the engine and just replaces one of the factory bolts. Makes for an easy method to tap for the boost. Geno's also sends photos and descriptions as to where to tap though the firewall and what wire (orange and white) to tap for the gauge lights. They also provide great technical assistance and have an umber to call if you need support. I made the decision to go "pre-turbo. Grease the drill bit. The turbo, according to Geno's, does not spool up until 1500 rpm, so all of the filings are blown out when you start the truck. I had no problems with filings (also used mechanics magnet after drilling). By the way. I want to accurately represent the install. The primary work was done by a diesel mechanic I trusted with my (inept at times) help. I got the Auto Meter "Phantom" series gauges. They match the factory gauges for the 03 almost exactly . I also ordered the factory paint from Genos'. (only one color for the 03). I get lots of compliments on the gauges. Perhaps the best ones are when people ask what factory option the gauges are and how much. The pro-pod, gauges and paint were about $280 with shipping. Best of luck. Hope I have not bored you with details. Regards.
