So I know it has been asked before, but what gauges and pods (mounts) do you use and how do you like them?

How do you fit three gauges on the pillar with a tweeter there too???

Am using the Auto-meter Ultra-lite series, orginaly I purchased the VDO vision series and IMHO they are very "cheap" looking and lack quality i see in the Auto-meters. I have the Auto meter 2 gauge pod and a 2 gauge panel near the fuel pedel... lol i was gonna say gas pedal #ad

Boost,EGT,Fuel Pressure,Trans Temp, "true" 5 inch exhaust from turbo to tail pipe, waiting in the wings, DD stage 3 injectors and boost module,HX-40 16cm in transit..... finally a blue box or TST box or?????

The 3-gauge pillar pod is still "in the works", apparently. If I remember correctly, one of our moderators was spending his own money to send a 2001 A-pillar off to a company that would make some for us...
I couldn't afford to wait any longer, so I ordered a dual gauge pod, AutoMeter brand, it's a really nice fit above the tweeter.
These are my part numbers and items purchased: (all AutoMeter)
#15203 dual gauge pod
#3304 Sport Comp Boost 35psi
#3365 Sport Comp Exhaust Gas Temp. 0-1600
#5249 Street Series Pyrometer kit

I had intended to make the 3rd gauge a fuel pressure gauge, but decided I could do without for the time being, EGT temperatures can do a lot more damage than lack of fuel pressure, and anyway, a drop in turbo boost can indicate a fueling problem, so common sense and preventative maintenance can get you around lack of a fuel pressure gauge. BUT... anyone with an auto transmission would do well to get a transmission temp gauge, no ifs, ands, or buts...
Some of the guys on here, notably KatDiesel, are going with a dash pod that holds 3 gauges. It looks like a really great install... I'm pleased with the quality of the AutoMeter products !

I went with a dual a-pillar pod from TST with a boost and egt gauge from DiPricol in there. I am now adding a Stewart Warner fuel pressure gauge with a switch for pre- and post-filter below the dash using one of Geno's donut gauge mounts (rubber) and it's nearly a dead-ringer for the DiPricol gauges (orange letters, white hash marks, orange needle). Because I don't have to monitor it all the time it's going below the dash. I also want to add an engine oil temp gauge but I want to wait for a 3 gauge pillar pod for that. Eventually I will just use a regular gauge pod off of the left side of the dash and space it out with the a-pillar pod if nothing comes out. I also have an Isspro turbo temp monitor hidden behind the dash that monitors post turbo temps and leaves the engine running until a safe post turbo temp is reached.

Does any one know of a two or three pod dash mount that can be mounted on the right side of the dash? I want to mount gauges in a manner that will be no higher than the hood within my line of sight. This way I will not lose any view out of the windshield. For those using the pillar pod mount, how much vison lose does this cause? The door pillar is already pretty big.

Larry:
I mounted two ISSPRO gauges in the isspro pods with double sided tape right on top of the steering wheel cover (in front of the 4way flasher button for the left pod) so the pods appear centered in the speedometer and rpm gauges. You can still see the outer 25% of the speedo and rpm needles just fine and the backlight intensity matches the rest of the dash pretty well. Only slightly blocks some of the warning symbols and those are easy to see by looking around the pods. Best feature is that it doesn't block any of the windshield view or take up lower dash space.

You do not lose any more sight with the A-pillar mount. At first it is a little strange having gauges right in front of you, but after a couple of days you will find out you like it. I moved mine up from the lower dash, you had to take your eyes off the road to long to check them.

I am going with Autometer Ultra Lite series gauges. They look very nice compared to most gauges (at least for my taste).
  • #4357 transmission temp 100 to 250º
  • #4304 Boost gauge 0 to 35 psi
  • #4365 EGT 0 to 1600º
  • #15002 Triple gauge dash pod (see picture)

These pictures are NOT my truck, they came from the Autometer Websitete, my gauges look much better then these! #ad

I still have to purchase the "pyro probe kit" and the dash pod is on special order from Summit. Should have it around June 15th. This dash pod goes up against the windshield in between the defroster vents. If I don't like the way it looks then I will fo for some type of A Pillar mounting. Soon as I get all the parts and get it installed I will gladly report back.

KatDiesel,

When you are sitting in your normal driving position, is the Tripple gauge pod above the hood within you line of sight as you veiw the road? I think this is the combo I am looking for.

Autometer released a new product line of gauges called the Lunar series. I guess they are having trouble making them. They Say available in August 00. Neat Looking.

Ya Hemi I likes the looks of them (saw them in the catalog I got with my UltraLites), but they don't have a wide selection yet for waht I wanted. I am pretty happy with my Ultra Lites, now if only my freaking triple gauge dash pod would get here from Summit!!! I hate waiting... .

I got my gauges from Summit too. They are probably the best place to buy Speed parts from. Great customer service, quick shipping, and no hassle returns.

I see your Trans temp gauge is electrical. Its going to be easier to install than a Mechanical. My mechanical water temp has a 3/8 NPT fitting on the end with the probe. I tried to snake it down thru the opening where the pillar meets the dash. Its going to take patience and a 7/8" hole in the firewall!. The probe line and 3/8 fitting are connected to the gauge. Can not seperate.

I had gotten thermocouple P# 5244. Its the competition series. Street series is on back order. Jegs says they have # 5244 in stock. They are sending. 50 bucks less than the comp probe. I`m not that big on Jegs. If its not in stock, it wouldn`t surprise me.

I may skip the Water Temp. It could be more hassle than its worth. Now I have a 2 gauge full Pillar pod on its way. And a 3 Pod Pillar mount in the basement painted interior color. (unreturnable now)

I dunno #ad

Kat,

If I were you ,I would get an Ultimat,Dash mat to cover the wiring on your dashboard gauge mount. I wouldn`t want to drill holes in that new of a truck. I have an Ultimat on my dash and love it. It is moulded to the countours of the dash perfectly.

DiPricol 0 to 60 psi boost and a pyro from TST mounted on the A piller with the 1/2 piller mount. They are easy to read and look great. I like the fact that the boost gauge goes to 60#s, not that I see that much but I do get over 30#
