I'm getting ready to gauge my truck. I'm leaning toward digital, because I think they will match better with the interior lights. :)

What does everyone prefer, digital of analogue?

Here's a link with pictures for anyone else getting ready to get gauges...

Pics of gauges. .

What I like better about analog gauges is that you can see where you are at with a glance at the needle, you don't really need to read numbers.

I voted analog. I can glance at an analog gauge and tell if the reading is "normal" without having to focus my eyes, then read and interpret a number. This may just be because I my eyes are getting older and I learned to think analog. Many younger folks prefer digital watches, digital meters, and menu driven instruments and appliances.

Give me dials, knobs, and analog displays - I find them much easier and faster to use.

Dave (trying hard to make 300 postings)

Well, I agree with Dave, illflem and mongoose, but the one advantage the digital gauges do have is two gauges in one package, at least with the SPA gauges. That's why I am eventually going to switch, so I won't have gauges all over my cab. Of course there are some analog gauges that are also dual, like the Westach EGT/boost gauge I believe. But I also think it is a pretty large gauge, and won't fit in my existing pillar mount setup.

Wanted SPA's but could not afford them. Went with Autometer Z series. Match the dash real nice with the green bulb cover, have no regrets.

Isspro EV

Take a look at the Isspro EV, they are a new gauge. The lighting is now thru the numbers. I have fuel pressure and manifold pressure, waiting on the pyrometer. These gauges look like factory at night. Next I will try green bulb condoms and that should match the factory lighting better. Sam

The Westach's fit in the standard Geno's/AutoMeter 2" gauge pod. I have 4 Westach gauges (combo EGT & boost, combo pre-filter fuel pressure & post-filter fuel pressure) in a Geno's/AutoMeter 2-gauge A-pillar pod with tweeter.

DAWG-1

I got my Isspro EV pyro on Wed. Installed today. I also installed the green condoms. They match the dashlights nicely. although the Pyro has 2 small bulbs in it and it is a little dimmer than the boost and fuel pressure gauges.

Thanks for all the replys.

Some of you have also answered a second question I was gonna ask.

It seems that you can use either a green bulb or a green cover to duplicate the dash lights,... .

Now I'm leaning towards analogue, the Westach dual boost and EGT mounted in the "hole" in the dash. Or, maybe I'll take out that useless airbag switch, and mount it in that hole, if possible.

If I can use a green back light, I think I'm going with the Westach combo gauge from Genos.

:D I use analog also. Here is a trick you can use on them that will help you when you look at them. Once you have installed them and you have run them for awhile and get use to where they set during normal operation, you can take a thin band of tape and mark the upper and the lower limit of where they run normally. This method is used in military aircraft on engin gages all the time. Another thing you can do, is rotate the gages so that when you are in normal driving mode, the needles are all straight up. Once again this is something that is used in aviation. Food for thought. Have fun with your new gages. :D

Does anyone know of anybody that makes a 40-45 lb. boost guage? I am barely topping out the 35lb. right now. Would like to install a 3k gov. spring kit, and maybe eventually increase power some. ;)

Geno's has some nice guages but they go from either 35 lb. or 60 lb. I don't think I'll ever see 60 lb. and don't want more guage than I'll use. I prefer the analog guages over digital.

Installed the Westach gauges a few months ago... They work great. One of mine is the EGT/Boost combo. The other is Fuel Pressure. They come with a bulb cover in red, green, or blue (your choice).

Just a note... If you get the Westach gauges. When you put the bulb cover on, make sure the bulb is seated all the way in the plastic holder. There should be no clear bulb showing when you put the cover on... . ;)

Steve, My Banks boost gauges are 40 psi, heard they were made by someone else anyways (Isspro?). If the boost on a 5. 9 ever exceeds 40 you are past the point of diminishing returns, any more boost won't do anything for you. .

Thanks Bill, I'll check out the Banks site and see what they have. I am not really wanting to increase the boost, actually I want to keep it from going too high. When my guage is tapping the top now, I won't know how high it's going if I make any more mods.

In the Isspro EV line they make a turbo boost gauge that has vacuum and pressure to 20#. They also make a manifold pressure gauge that goes to 40#. They also make a 30# fuel pressure.

Thanks Everyone!

:D

Just ordered the Westach combo gauge from Genos today.

Thanks for the heads up on the bulb cover, Rick. :)

I'm gonna try to mount it in the airbag switch hole.

 I also ordered a TDR badge.

Let us see, why I voted digital:

1. Two gauges in one.

2. Remembers my maximum indication.

3. Largest scale readings available.

4. I do not have to read a gauge, indicator light for high or low limits.

5. Self-calibration to ensure accuracy.

6. Fun to play with :D
