Gauge Lights Not Working???

Where to find a Tach setup

Finally rounded up the dough to purchase my guages. Since I have a '93, I'm going to go the easy route, and get Isspro gauges since I can use the factory tach plug-in under the dash. Went out to Isspro's new web page and found the following part numbers:

Tach: R8501 (3k) or 8503 (4k)

Tach install kit: R8912-92

Boost: R5623R (60 psi)

Pyro: R605 or R607G (w/ color)

Trans temp: ???? couldn't find one

Question 1: Is this what you guys with Isspro are running? If not, do you have your part numbers available so I can look at the gauge on-line?

Okay, on to mounting kits. I'd love the tach to fit in a steering column pod. I see Autometer lists a PN 15012 single 2 1/16 column pod, but its listed for '94 - '02 (except '02 1500). My column on my '93 looks very similar (if not identical) to the columns in the '94 trucks. Would this fit? Anybody tried it yet?

The rest of the gauges I believe will go into a 3 guage pod that sits on top of the dash. Any recommendations for a nice dashtop pod?

I want to have my data straight so I can start calling on vendors and get these on order ASAP.

Thanks

The 94 column pod is the same. I don't think you can use the two guage mount though. Only one. Fits nice and you can see your speedo up to 80MPH or so. After 80..... who cares.

I don't have my part numbers available right now. I did install ISSPRO. Also have the transmission temp unit too. They do have one.

I did not like the bright light from all my guages so painted the bulbs a blue/green to dampen the light down and match the factory dash lamps somewhat.

I bought my 3-gauge pod from U. S. Gear. The part #s are DC-6530 for teh pod, DB-5930 for the base. I have a couple pics in my Member's Album (click the link to the left;)).

I'm running Isspro EV-series pyro, boost, and trans temp gauges - bought them from Geno's. Here are the #s:

ISS-R5613R... ... ... . 0-30 PSI Boost

ISS-R3607G... ... ... . EGT

ISS-R5656R... ... ..... Trans temp

If the 2nd Gen column pod will work on our trucks, I think I know where I'll be putting the tach when I get one. :D

what a co-wink-e-dink

I just went through this with my truck in the last 3 or 4 weeks. Here are the threads I had on my experience.

gauges

Wiring

There are pictures in my gallery (samsrams also) of what the second gen dash mount looks like (Autometer 15002) with a little carving to fit our dash contour. I liked the smooth look of it over the US Gear, just my opinion though and we know what they are worth.

I used the 5503 tach, at least I think that is what the part number was, whatever it is the 2 pulse per rev version that works with the 91. 5 and up computers and needs no adjustment like some alt mount ones. As my above post states, I think the adapter harness is a waste, get 4 wires, some 1/8 inch spade connectors and make your own.

Good luck, you will like the Isspro stuff.

Just checked, and it is a 5503 tach 0-4K.

I have one of the Isspro 8503 model tachs on my desk right now that is going into a Auto Meter steering column pod. The pod mounts right on the 93 column with no problems. But that 8503 Isspro tach does not fit a 2 1/16" hole like they state. I have to open the Auto Meter pod up a little to get it to slide in.

Like Flex said. Save the money on the wiring kit. $35. for no more than you get. Make your own.

I use a Auto Meter EGT and boost gage. I have the sport comp series. The Isspro 8503 was the closest match to them.

Here is a link with a pic of my Sport Comp gages.

SAVe your money- dotn get direct from ISSPRO; lots of vendors here on the TDR sell gauges. I have dealt with these people several times before- www.dieselpage.com

Get at least a 40psi boost gauge- with pump tweaks and stock injectors, 12cm housing on a H1C, you can hit 30.

Same with the tach- go for 4K. You can turn the high idle screw to make over 3000rpm.

I got the colored pyrometer. Makes it easy for when someone borrows it- "make sure you keep it out of the red zone. If you get up there, you owe me an engine. shut down at 300. " Put the t-couple in the manifold. The 1/4NPT works fine in the relatively soft stock manifold with no problems. Or at least I havent had any.

I got an ISSPRO tach soming next week, I think.....

Isspro boost R5623R, pyro R3607T, tach 3 3/8" alt tach R85220R. Autometer makes single and dual pillar pods for 1st gens, any vendor can get it for you. You can run a single on top of a dual if you want three gauges on pillar. STan, Scheids tried to tell me there wasnt even a dual pod let alone a single pod avail to 1st gens, I said well geno has them, they checked geno's catalog sure enough they do. They also sold me a post turbo pyro instead of the preturbo pyro I wanted, only difference is the color coding. I'm don't use them unless its something I need now, such as filters or small purchases, I like the CS I get from PDR, jmo.

Flexiheep, I really like the looks of you EV tach, I have the Ev boost and pyro, that EV tach would loook better than the monster 3 3/8" tach I have now, how much did ya have to give for it? I'd probly need the sensor kit since I'm non-IC. . more $$

Edit: btw you guys can get a free color catalog from isspro's website, negatory from autometer, hmm wonder why isspro got my money. .

Bill,

I agree with you 100% about the customer service that PDR gives. I have been getting most of my stuff through them for the past couple of years. I'm surprised though about your comment that Scheids said they didn't have a double pod. It is listed on their web site for 89-93's but there is no single pod shown. Oh well, sounds like there are other places to get them now. I got mine about 3 years ago and had trouble finding it at that time. Was using a dash pod before getting the pillar one.

recently got the EV tach from diesel manor (advertiser on this site) for ~85$. Unbelievaable price! Since I live just north of Portland (ISSPRO is out of Portland), I just picked it up.

One thing to keep in mind is the EV tach does not have the orange pointer that the catalog says it has. They were surprised when I pointed that out to them. Said it was the first time they had seen that. :(

Update

The Isspro 8503 tach does not fit the Auto Meter steering column pod. If you try to use a gage light it likes 1" of going all the way in. If you remove the gage light it still likes around 1/2" to bottom out. If you dremel off the gage light socket it will go in all the way. :(

So you you better rethink using one in this combo setup. I have mine installed right now. But I am going to contact Auto Meter and see if one of their tach's will fit the pod and interface with my stock PCM tach signal.

Crap... so much for that idea. :(

Any way to use an LED in the Isspro gauge for illumination? You could probably fit one of those in the hole somehow without having the socket sticking out the back.

I just sent an email to Auto Meter about their 2697 tach to see if it will fit the steering column pod and interface with the Dodge PCM. It might take a week of so for them to respond.

You might be able to use a led of some sort. But you would just have to tape it in to secure it. To make the 8503 fit flush. You have to take the gage light mounting comletely off the tach. :( :(

I'll get a pic and post it in a little while to show how far it sticks out with the gage light socket still on.

How much $ are we talking for PDR gauges?

They don't seem to have prices on their page!

Is it a BIG SECRET?

Just wondering!

LMAO yea, i was wondering the same thing-kinda scary cause i've been told that if you gotta ask the price you can't afford it lol ;)

Here is the view from the drivers seat. Something to think here. My truck has factory buckets these are taller than a factory bench seat. I am 6' tall. The pic doesn't show it. But I can see to 90 MPH while moving.

Hey... ...

I've set in that truck!... . And that wasn't there then :) Look's  Philip.

Would cutting your threaded studs off the tach housing help it set back in? Or does the guage require the mounting bracket?

-S

That is with the studs removed Scott. It would have been out a lot farther with the studs on. Somewhere around 1. 5".

I like the position Scott. But I don't like the way the tach doesn't go down into it far enough. I'll find a tach that will go in all the way. I am not to picky on brand eather.

On a side note. With the 3:07 gears I run 1500 RPM at 55 MPH. If anyone ever drives that slow. LOL
