I just bought an 06 Dodge and after a few weeks the speedo started acting weird. Sometimes it would just drop to zero and sometimes it would go past the top end and eventually come back up to zero but on the wrong side of the pin. Turns out 06 is a year of many first and the instrument cluster from an 07 ism different. 2003 to 05 is totally different. I pulled it out and there are supposed to 8 screws around the outside and 10 more holding the board in place. Mine had only 2 on the outside. That's it. The PO must have had tach issues as that appears to be more common that speedo issues. The oil pressure and temp gauge would also drop to zero at times. So after a bit of driving without a speedo I found a used cluster at an auto wreckers and put it in. All my gauges now work except my odometer is way out as the wrecked truck only had half as many KMs on it as mine. That was my big question. Will the computer override the dash but it didn't. I'm sure there is a way to "fix" that but I'm not worried as I have sent my cluster out for repair and will reinstall it when I get it back.
The 06 has 11 light bulbs and the 07 only has 5. The 07 doesn't have a stop pin at zero for the speedo needle.
The printed circuit board its totally different as well.
I now can change the cluster in less than 10 minutes.
