gauges! to do or not to do?

I own an '07 turbo diesel truck; 6. 7; w/auto transmission. I use the truck mainly to haul my trailer w/about 8,000 lbs. in tow here in CA. We have some steep grades here & wondering if it's necessary to add gauges to monitor what's going on under that hood and the transmission. I plan to keep the truck engine stock. If so, what gauges would you recommend (EGT, boost, etc. )? thanks-

Recommended gauges would be; EGT, Boost, Transmission. If you plan to stay stock, they would not be necessary, but you would be able to monitor whats going on.

thanks- but I read somewhere on this site that if something were to go wrong with the EGT, diesel fuel may spill into the cab. Is this a concern?

EGT is nothing more than a probe and 2 wires and it measures the exhaust gas temperature. The only time diesel would get into the cab is when your running a fuel pressure gauge. Even then most have isolators to prevent such a problem.

As WKruger said. The only gage with fluid in it is the fuel pressure gage. And the only way I have ever seen this used is with antifreeze in the line between the fuel line and the gage.

In you other post, you asked how to route the wires into the cab.

On the firewall on the inside above the brake pedal, there is a rubber grommet. You could put the wires through the center of the grommet. But I find this difficult. What I usually do is pull the grommet to the side a bit, and pull the wires through the side of the grommet, not the center. It still gives plenty good seal and is very easy to do.

Dodge is being very tight with warranty issues... ... ... ... if you have a stock truck it might be easier on you warranty wise to forget the gauges.

I found the edge insight has the features of gauges and also will allow you to watch regen stats and codes. I don't think it would cause any warranty issues which is a positive side.

I added the Edge Insight and EGT probe to my truck a couple of weeks ago and so far find it to be a great addition. It lets you monitors many more functions than you would want to have gauges and allows you to set alarms that monitor five or six parameters.

Hey BoB4X4, how about the ELECTRIC FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE, that uses the transducer, no more worries of Diesel or Anti freeze woes? I think I may have one laying around

In case it's hard to see in the pic, the lower gauge is fuel pressure, and the top is a dual gauge, EGT and turbo boost - if I had an automatic transmission instead of manual, I'd probably add a transmission lube temp gauge as well.



If you have warranty concerns related to added gauges, talk with the dealership you trust to service the truck for their viewpoint...
