I am interested in purchasing Gauges for EGT and Boost,

and do not want to have to drill/tap any parts of the

engine.

Is this possible? If so or if not, what is the best bang for the buck?

I like my autometer Z-series.......

But then you'll get hundreds of opinions on that.

Piers diesel (Check Links) sells a bolt that replaces one of the intake horn ones I believe. Pretty cheap and no drilling there. There's a plug on the drivers side of the engine also that you can adapt down to the sender size. I heard this gives some kind of pulse? though. Someone smarter than I will chime in on that.

As far as the EGT I think your stuck, short of buying an exhaust brake with a port attached. It's really not that hard to drill and tap. I'm sure there is someone in your area from the TDR that would be willing to help.

Hope this helps,

Garrett

JW:

I am in the process of installing boost, pyro and fuel pressure gauges on my 2001. 5. Believe me, drilling and tapping the intake horn and exhaust manifold is easy compared to the rest of the install process. Just take your time and use as much care as possible during the drilling and tapping process.

My install project would have taken 1/2 the time if I had elected to go with one of the gauge mounts on the market, but I decided to use individual cups placed in the dash cubby hole directly behind the stick shift. Lots of time involved making a bracket to mount inside the cubby.

In short, go ahead and drill and tap, you will be much happier with the results.

jwilliams, you're right there in Columbus, Indiana, home of Cummins, and TST Products. Give Scott Kilby at TST a call, he'll drill and tap the manifold for you. He's good. Also, I've done quite a few trucks for friends, I'll give you a hand if you want to come hang out with the GLTDR. I'm in and out of Indiana all the time, visiting friends, going to truck events. On one of those trips, I could arrange to assist with your gauge installation.

Thanks for all the replies and offers of help, its greatly appreciated.

Im not really scared of drilling, I just dont like the fact of

drilling into factory engine parts, but oh well.

Bye the way, Anyone have TST gauges?

I do...I do....

Assume you mean DiPricol. I have the egt and boost. Very high quality and excellent back lighting at night. I also have an Autometer Z series fuel pressure guage. Night lighting sucks... ...

Me too !!!

My first three gauges were from TST, DiPricol boost, egt, and oil temp. My boost actual states 'Manifold Pressure' rather than 'Turbo Boost', found on the newer DiP's and goes up to 60 psi's rather than 30 or whatever the new gauge goes to ( why did they change that ???).

My only complaint with the DiP's is that the egt. gauge does not have an illuminated needle, the others do and it really isn't easy to read the egt gauge at night. Maybe they have changed that since my purchase, something to consider though.

Other than that, the DiPricols perform as they should and overall I am happy with them.

As far as the drilling goes, consider it a right of passage. If you overcome the concern of drilling through a brand new and perfectly good manifold, the addition of other mods. to your truck will be a piece O cake in the future.
