I have a dodge 2004. 5 Ram truck and I have been thinking about installing 3 new gauges on it. These gauges are turbo boost, EGT, and an automatic transmission temp. gauge. I was talking to a Dodge Tech. yesterday and he said I didn't need any of these gauges on my model truck, that it had all of these gauge capabilities already built in to it. I am thoroughly comfused now. I have been reading in the TDR where these three gauges are very important in monitoring the performance of the HPCR cumming engine. Can someone please help me out on this. I don't want to buy these gauges and install them If they aren't really necessary. Please help thank you.

If you're going to keep your truck completely stock and don't tow/haul heavy, you probably don't need the gauges. The Boost/EGT will let you know how hard your are pushing the engine, and will tell you if you have a problem. The transmission temp gauge is also useful for making sure you don't cook your transmission while towing. Most vehicles come with an "IDIOT LIGHT" to tell you that you've run out of oil, but I prefer the oil pressure gauge... :)

The 04. 5 run pretty hot stock. . I know that a couple of people in here said that while towing they could get up to 1400+ with their stock truck. If they didn't have an egt gauge they never would have know because someone told them "these model trucks don't need gauges. " It's always better to be able to monitor what is going on with your truck. transmission temps can climb will towing and if they get to high you want to back out. Heat helps kill your transmission. If you had a crack in your exhaust manifold and your building boost when you shouldn't be a boost gauge would help indicate that. IMO you can't go wrong having gauges. Plus if you ever plan on bombing your truck they are a most have.

What do you mean by the letters IMO, and also what do you mean by planning on bombing my truck??? please explaing

Bombing =modification, ie. exhaust, intake, programmer/chip, injectors, bigger turbo, ect. you know FUN stuff.

Gauges are a great thing - let you see what your motor is doing! Knowing what your auto transmission temp is at is a good thing too! Double deep pan that thing right away - it'll extend the life! Cool transmission fluid is GOOD!!!

Don't see where your from - what part of the country (or globe)... ... . but getting together with other diesel folks and learning about your rig can be a great experience.
