I have been tinkering with the 89.

It was super weak in the begining, it's getting stronger as we go.

I don't want to go any farther without gauges or gauge as it may be.

I know eventually I will need a boost gauge but for now would it be fine to go with just an EGT gauge.

Is the boost gauge a big deal to have?

The truck still doesn't smoke much and I'm not gonna put much money into it.

At least as far as upgrades go. It will eventually get a gov spring, and a 16cm housing other than that it's a work truck.

So how bad do I need a boost gauge??

Thanks guys,

KO

A mechanical boost gauge is cheap and a breeze to install. While the mods you mention may or may not put your boost levels in the 'red zone,' so to speak, it's better to have the gauge than not to IMO. OTOH, if you can afford to spend say $3-400, you could do a series of gauges and be done with it. If it were my truck, I'd install the gauges based on the fun factor alone :D

You can get a pyrometer and boost gauge ,with pillar mount, shipped to your door for a hair over $200. That is all you need, though fuel pressure and transmission temp are fun.

The pillar mount is what I was thinking of.

The truck is barebones, it has to have the trim on the pillar to hook the mount to right?

If so I'll have to find that somewhere.

I really don't want to do anymore than I have to to it.

I use it more or less just to keep miles off of the 03.

And of course, it sure is nice being able to throw whatever you want in it and not worry about scratching it etc.

It is not used for towing.

The 03 probably needs gauges more as I tow with it exclusively now.

BUT the 89 is Ohhh so fun to play with :D :D
