I'M TRYING TO PUT GAUGES IN MY 2002 DODGE. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME ADVISE ON WHERE TO INSTALL SENSORS FOR THE TRANS TEMP,BOOST,EXHAUST TEMP GAUGES.

Don't know about the transmission temp, but I've done boost and pyro. For the boost, I just removed the air intake tube (aluminum) and then drilled and tapped a hole for the compression fitting, which should have come with the gauge. For the pyro, I drilled a hole in the downpipe, the diameter of which was the same as the diameter of the probe. I then inserted the probe and used the stainless clamp to hold her down. HOWEVER, in retrospect, I should have drilled into the exhaust manifold, as that gives a more relevant temperature reading.

I just finished putting gauges on my '01. 5 a couple of days ago. Should be the same animal. Real pain, but well worth it! Here is what I did:

Boost: Easiest of all! There is a pipe plug you can remove with a 1/2 inch drive ratchet and extension just behind the fuel filter. Buy a 3/4 NPT bushing to reduce to the fitting for your gauge... probably 1/8 NPT. You might have to use an adapter inside the adapter to get from 3/4 to 1/8.

Pyro: There is a debate about putting the sensor before or after the turbo. You can do a search and find plenty of reading on the subject! (I did!) I installed mine before the turbo. No matter where you install it, you have to drill and tap a hole in the exhaust for it. I have heard several who tapped the pipe thread for the sensor too big and had trouble. Be careful! Best advice is to run the tap down only about 1/2 way and test the fit. It is a lot easier to take out a little more metal if needed than put some back in!!!

Trans Temp: I have read several ways and I wasn't impressed with any of the options... just MY personal opinion! Again, you can do a search and find several options. Personally, I used a 1/2 pipe T. I cut the line that comes out of the front of the trans, crosses underneath, and goes to the cooler on the passenger side of the motor. I cut out the last 90 degree curve before the cooler... just under the exhaust pipe on the passenger side. I put two 1/2 inch compression fittings in the T. I installed the T in such a way that one compression fitting faces the back and the other one faces up. The sensor goes into the front of the T so the hot fluid hits it directly and goes out the top. Use what ever reducer bushing you need to adapt from the 1/2 T to your sensor. Only one caution... the bushing I bought had a hole in it barely big enough for the sensor to fit through. NO fluid would have circulated around it! I drilled out the hole up to the threads so fluid can circulate around the tip of the sensor.

Take your time and think it through... better to be a little slow and get it right the first time!!! I LOVE my new gauges!

Just did a buddies 2002 yesterday and it worked just like Keimmmo said. My transmission sensor is in exactly the same place. He said it all
