how much can 1st gen 250 tow

RVing, camping, BOMBing and racing lyrics

:) Thank you Gray Wolf. Boy am I going to be way over. I figure I. m going to be between 18,000 to 20,000 lbs with the trailer and truck loaded. Take care.

Are you sure

If the truck is rated at 8500 and the GCWR = 12000 then that only allows for a 3500# trailer - This doesn't add up right.

Gray Wolf - Can the numbers posted be GTW (Gross Trailer Weight) ?

BV I'm with you. Boy I can't pull as much as a gas 150 since the truck is around 7,000lbs before I hook up a trailer. I did pull a trailer and truck loaded to Fl. one year and weighted in at 19,000 lbs. I looked up a new 250 on Dodge site and if I read it correctly it said GCWR around 20,000lbs. So how could truck be so much different than a new one.

It could be a misprint or... ... ... ..... but it does say GCWR and it is a Chrysler Service Manual. The chart is on page 9 if anyone else cares to check their manual.

It even has this under the heading (Total truck, trailer, cargo, people & fluids)

I agree fully with you guys but that what it says!

My owners manual shows (5 speed manual) gcwr,3. 54 gears,

16,000#. 4. 10 gears,17,000# . A automatic is somewhat

less but I'm not sure how much. I tow a 31',12,000+ Fifth wheel.

I was forced to up my power because of the weight.

Headwinds were killing me.

For what it is worth the 92 auto, 3. 5, 2wd I used to have was rated for 12,000 and increased to 14,000 with the big trans cooler that was mounted under the bed. I don't think the 93 was much higher. In fact the 97 4X4 is only 16,000.

My '92 service manual says the same as what Grey Wolf posted.

3. 54 = 12,000

3. 90 = 13,000

4. 10 = 13,500

4. 56 = 14,000

My take on this is that the 5. 9L engine that it refers to is the gasser and not the diesel.

The 92 owner's manual which specifically covers the diesel shows the following GCWR (total truck, trailer, cargo, people & fluids)

D&W 250/350 - - - - - - 3. 54 - - - - 4. 10

Man 5-speed - - - - - 16,000 - - 17,000

Auto 4-speed O/D - -12,000 - - 12,000
