2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission GD Driveshaft Carrier Bearing

I've gone through about five carrier bearings in the last year. The first bearing lasted 140K but the other OEM bearings can't seem to last more than 10K. The steel disc gets spit out of the carrier first and then the bearing starts walking down the drive shaft towards the front of the truck.



I just had my Firestone air bags modded because I thought they might be the cause of the problem but that's not it. I have some front end shakes at 65 plus MPH that I mentioned to my mechanic. My front end has been totally rebuilt (ball joints, Tie rods, DSS, Borgeson, and so on) Has anyone else with around 500 rear wheel HP had bearing issues. Does anyone else make a better OEM replacement bearing.

Look at the slip joint. Might could it's not slipping the way it should. It may need de-rusting, greasing and a vent hole opened up. I think I had this happen on my old F-150. That's about the only thing that can cause the D/S to push the bearing out.

if the above doesn't work try:

Could your front end vibration may actually be the driveshaft? look for a missing weight, some weld on the tube. It may be hard to find because of the rust color. FSM says to add 2 worm clamps on the driveshaft, test, if vibration - move screws of worm clamp apart from each other until vibration disappears. because you have 2 driveshafs (4 endd) the combo could take awile, I would have a drive shaft shop rebalance them.

about 575hp and no problems W carrier, only problem that i have is gettting the pinion angle set,because of dropping 5''.
