Santa brought me a MK2+Big Line and I have some questions. Should I have a fuel pressure gauge? What is the gauge going to tell me if it does not measure flow, flow is more important than pressure, right? I talked to a fellow that was not real high on the use of isolators, if I did not use an isolator is that bad? Is there a fuel pressure gauge that uses a sending unit and electric gauge? Anybody have any other good options?

Thanks all!

I have the same set up on my truck and I added a pressure gauge after the second filter. I bought the gauges from Genos Garage and it does use an isolator and so far has not given me a problem. I use the gauge to let me know that the filters are plugged and try not to pull the pressure below 5 psi since anything less then 3 psi is not good.

if you have pressure then you have flow i dont think i have come across any instrument that is available to measure flow. ya you want to keep you pressure above 5psi if not your injections pump has to work harder and if the pressure at the suction side of the injection pump gets too low it could cause cavitation and this will destroy the pump pretty quickly. as far as the isolator i would advise using it if you dont then you have fuel coming into your truck it could leak at the gauge are prehaps somewhere else in your truck

I just bought a GDP MK-2 kit also. I am fairly new at this and would like the help of those with more experience.

I have seen fittings and/or sending units mounted on the filter mount housing and/or teed into the line from the GDP set up into the CP3. I would like to know if a guage is really necessary, and if so, what is the best and most cost effective method for a gauge hook up and installation. (I plan on changing filters every other oil change. )

I am in the process of installing a BD X-Monitor on the driver's A-post. An additional guage will have to be mounted elsewhere.

Thanks, Chuck

If you have a 2nd gen engine and only one toy to buy... get a fuel gauge. At the least get a low pressure warning light but the gauge is better IMO.

CTRice, I sure don't know if a fuel pressure gauge is necessary but I have more than one person tell me if I am only getting one gauge to get a fuel pressure gauge. I don't tow a lot of weight and I have no mods. The SRT-10 pillar looks real nice but that real estate is already used up on yours. I am a little concerned that I may end up with more than one gauge so I am thinking about putting the fuel pressure gauge over the mirror on the windsheild. I think I am going to get an Autometer, unless I get bad feedback from people, because it uses a sending unit and won't run fuel or whatever fluid they use for an isolator into the truck. The top of the dash looks like another good place to put gauges so i might need to flip a coin. It sure seems like the column mount would be in the way of the CEL and other lights at the bottom of the dash display. I am thinking about the Autometer for two reasons. It is more expensive than the Westach, so it has to be better, right? And the sweep on the Autometer is wider. The Westach looks to have about a 90 degree sweep and the Autometer looks to be about 270 or so. The only reason that matters to me is if I need to get an external lift pump. The Westach looks like it would be fine if I picked the 0-15, but it would not handle the 20-25 of a new lift pump. If I got the 0-30 Westach it does not look like the 90 degree sweep would provide enough resloution to see the difference between 8psi and 5psi. Anyway, those are the thoughts of someone that knows nothing. Oh yeah, I'm just going to use the T that comes with the GDP kit to tap off of. I sure hope someone tells me if I am going down the wrong path with this stuff.

Every mechanical fuel pressure gauge I have ever had I also used an isolator. I have never had any problems with any component. I installed the Isspro FP with the isolator in my 2006 last year in April. No problems so far, and I really do not expect any. I used RV water line anti freeze in the tubing from the isolator to the gauge. I connected the tubing at the isolator and filled it from the gauge end with a hypodermic needle/syringe. I connected the fuel side of the plumbing to the 'T' provided with my GDP big line kit in the line from the filter to the CP3.
