Muskyman,

If you are referencing the 5-speed trans, then the book recommendation is for Castrol Syntorx, rated GL-4. This seems about impossible to obtain here in the Detroit area from sources other than D/C and/or GMC dealers; the dealer price is about $18. 60 per quart. Does anyone know an alternative which conforms to the NV-4500 transmission specs and costs something a little less astronomical?

MGM, do you have any comments/recommendations? Until Gene is heard from, I'll help him out. Since draining the factory lube at about 25,000 miles, I've used Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 gear oil in my transmission (5-speed). I had some clutch/transmission work done recently (70,000 miles) at Enterprise Engine. They said my transmission guts were as good as they have seen. I had them install all new synchros and bearings anyway. Bottom line: Amsoil works and is a lot cheaper than the Dodge stuff.

Do a search on this site, lots of info on the 5speed lube.

Bottom line: The Amsoil is awesome for this transmission, at half the price of Castrol.

Dodge has tremendous mark-up on that oil.

Radixr,

What did you do with 5th?

Find any extra ponies in Mitchell's shop?

How was that gasket fix? Did it hurt?
