2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Gear oil with friction modifier already added.

I'm about to change the oil in my 2000 3/4 ton truck. It has a factory limited slip differential. In the past I've always used the friction modifier Dodge dealers sell. I see that Valvoline has gear oil with the friction modifier already added. Is it safe to rely on what Valvoline has added or should I stick with adding my own modifier?

I don't know about Valvoline, but I use Royal Purple with no additional modifiers. I suppose you just need to take some things with faith.

As far as I know only 75w/140 has the friction modifiers. If you are using 80w90 or 75w90 you will still need to add the modifier.

Do the model year 2000 have the clutch type LSD?

Friction modifier is necessary for all Dana axles which Dodge used up through 2002. In 2003 they went to AAM axles which do not have the clutch packs.

I use John Deere and shell oil and never add the additives and no problems or rear end chatter if the oil has it in already no need to add more
