I'm going to replace the gear oil on the truck today. I read on the Amsoil bottle the severe duty oil does not require limited slip additive. Is this true? I have never changed the front diff. oil and the truck has 128,000 miles on it. I'm a lil' worried. I was told the front isn't a big deal. My gut feeling tells me I should have this a long time ago.

Never changed the oil with 128000 miles! Ouch! I do mine every 15k. If you have a limited slip in the rear you'd need the additive, which I believe is in the Amsoil oil.

AA Axles used in 3rd gens DO NOT need the limited slip additive. 75W90 100% synthetic is required and the only recommended fluid.

Does the manual say anything about 75w-140? I know my dealer said that's what they put in anything they know will be towing a lot. I use Amsoil and next time I'll switch to the heavier stuff.

Hey Cattletrkr, if you want a 12 quart case of AMSOIL 75W-140, let me know and I'll make you a sweet deal on it. I put on my PML's and used the 75W-90.

My bad, I meant 75W90. There was some confusion awhile back about Dodge calling out 75W140 for heavy towing in a TSB, but it appears it was an error as it was posted on a website (dodgeram.org I think). The correct fluid is 75W90 100% synthetic with NO friction modifier.
