I have not seen the gear ratios on the different transmission, but I was wondering what the gear spacing was on the different transmission. For example 3 gear locked= 4 gear on the 5 speed. I could use this to help make a determination on what I am going to do. How many rpms drop between the gears, ect . thanks jim

After looking at the ratio the six speed is good for towing or what I consider good. For example the 6 gear with the . 73 overdrive ratio has 1800 rpms at 63 miles an hour.

Now with the 4 speed auto that is different, because of the . 69 ratio. Has anyone installed a 6 speed in a 12 valve truck that had a automatic. Can you tell any difference in mileage, because of a higher overdrive ratio, or is that made up by efficiency of a standard? Thanks Jim

I did a 6 speed install from a 5 speed. . That's really about as close as you will find... Top end is taller, there is no large gap between the 3 and 4 on the 5 speed. . all the gears are evenly spaced, and that transmission can move some loads! I will never own an automatic, just my personal preference, but hey, to each his/her own...
