Thought i would just ask here first. My gear shift is really loose where it slides over the actual piece that is on the trans. The play is starting to drive me crazy. It looks like to me that the rubber in the end of it is just wore out and lets it move around. Is there any way to repair it or can i just get a new rubber peice for the end of it. I thought i had heard or read that someone just used some (MONKEY SNOT) really good glue and just globbed it on it and let it set up and it took care of it. Anyone have any suggestions.

No Help!

I was hoping someone would have so idea or know somewhere i can get a new shifter or just the rubber piece in the bottom so i would have my inch and a half of play?!

JEB,

I am not 100% sure what you are talking about the rubber being loose in the end of the shifter, but here is what I can think of. The gearshift is two pieces and they are bolted togther. The bolts are hidden under the top rubber boot. If anything else is loose, then the shift tower is worn out. I would check the bolts in the shift lever. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem.

The rubber inside the shifter handle was all wore out.

So I drilled through the shifter and the mount so I could put some bolts through it.

Never moves now.

So you had to drill through both of them to put a bolt through. I take it you couldnt find a replacment piece. And to respond to the other its not in the tower it is in the bottom of the actual shift stick. If i want i can just pull it off and take it with me, i guess i wouldnt need a club for the steering wheel in this case. Just take my gear shift i dont think anyone would be able to take the truck then, lol. Well i think i will try the glue first then i will resort to the drilling and bolt method thanks for the replies.

I didn't feel like spending the time or money on a new shifter.

There are two pieces to the mount that the lever goes on. The top part comes off.

I drilled the top piece, then marked the shifter. I drilled the lever, then put it together with a couple of bolts.

It's better than OEM now. This thing will NEVER move.

Mine could be pulled off. When I took it apart mine had about a 2 inch crack in the tube that slides over the steel stock that bolts to the transmission. (Couldn't have been from the aggressive 2nd to 3rd gear shifts, with the tires barking). I just took two hose clamps and cinched the crack up around the bolt on stock. It still has a little slack in it but I am happy with it.

Oh yeah, I had that same problem. There was a long crack on the front edge of the shifter by the base... that was part of the reason why mine was loose.

I also tried the hose clamp trick, but the rubber on the inside was so warn that to get it tight I had to put bolts through it.
