Not saying I want to spend the bucks but curious if anyone has tried a Gear Vendor gear splitter?I was just reading their web page and thought way cool if it works as well as advertised.

My dad has a 1991 CTD with a 727 auto and a Gear Vendors overdrive With 3. 08 gears, at 60 without using the spliter the tach reads about 1900 rpms hit the split and the tach drops to 1500 rpms. I have found that it is to easy to get over the speed limt. If you where to get one you will love it, but you would have to drive a bunch to make up the cost in fuel.

It Works

Installation was a PIA, however, the end result was well worth it. I usually pull a trailer everyday and the most useful gear is 3rd over, between 3rd and 4th. Just this past Sunday I pulled my dump trailer in 5th over about 1800rpms, which was about 80mph. I can't wait to caculate my fuel mileage from that tank:rolleyes:

One more thing, Its EXPENSIVE!!!

The one I was reading about also split all the lower gears as well as high. Was curious how well all that worked? What was pia about installation, they claim easy to install? It sounds real trick!

Install

The thing about the installation was that this unit is a "one-size-fits-all" kind of deal. The instructions were for a F**D, so that complicated things a little. Also getting everything set-up for the correct driveshaft angles was a slight pain.

About splitting low and high gears, I don't know where these guys get these ideas. Maybe GV or US Gear make units like that but the way my GV works is that it is either on or off. Say your in 3rd and you want to use 3rd over, you push in the clutch, pull the button, let the clutch back out, and your in 3rd over. To go to 4th, push in the clutch, push the button in, move the shifter to 4th, let the clutch out, and your in 4th. May sound a little complicated but its like anything else, it becomes easier and smoother every time.
