Hello all,

I have some questions for all with aux tranies or gear splitters. Which one do you run? How many miles have you used it? What do you haul? Are you happy with your unit?

I'm going to spend approx. 2K Bucks and would like to hear what the people who use them have to say about them.

Much thanks in advance. #ad

BlownRat,

I have the Gearvenders in my 94 auto. It really works great. I pull a 15,500 lbs 5er and I can shift it at WOT. It actually shifts smoother when shifting under a load. The only thing I don’t like about it is that you can’t use it for breaking. I have about 60,000 miles on it at present.

Love the smell of diesel in the morning.

GearVendors, have 10,000 miles on it with no trouble what so ever. Shifts great. I pull a 24' enclosed car trailer, about 10,000 lbs.

I am interested in getting a Gearvendors for my truck too. Where can I get the best price on one?

Thanks,
Russ

I currently have the US Gear setup on my '91 - extremely heavy duty construction for heavy loads. My 5er is only 8,000 lbs, and never the slightest problem. Have also had an older Gear Vendors unit (on '85 Chevy 1-ton van), no pulling involved, and no problems of any kind with it either.

My US Gear OD was bought/installed thru Camping world for about $1850... They're both good units, but the GV unit probably shifts lots smoother than the US Gear unit due to design...

Early '91 250, 727 AT, 307 rear... Banks Stinger exhaust, intercooler... US Gear OD... MORE than a match for every new PS Ford encountered so far...

Remember, the US Gear unit can be purchased as either a 20% overdrive or a 20% underdrive. The Gear Vendors unit is ONLY offered in an overdrive version (despite their deceptive advertising). The only way you can "underdrive" with a Gear Vendors unit is to overdrive the next lower gear. Also, ONLY US Gear has the flexibility to be used in 4WD, as it installs between the transmission and transfer case... the down side being you will have the added expense of lengthening your front driveshaft as well as shortening your rear driveshaft. Finally, the US Gear counterpart can be left perpetually engaged if so desired, the Gear vendors unit cannot.

that is a good point. I really was looking at the US unit, except that on a standard wheelbase truck the fuel tank is also in the way and must be shortened by 12" because of the trnsfercase being moved back. I am sure that they are both excellent units.

Well folks my $. 02
I use the US Gear and haul a 11,000 lb fifth wheel RV and a 12,000 lb work trailer. The unit is very rugged and seems to help with the fifth gear nut problem. It has 28,000 miles on it with no trouble. If your clutch will take it the split shifts will get you going to speed in a hurry. The reason I bought this brand is the shift when I want. When I'm towing I shift at 2200 RPM. The truck seems to like it and it pulls well from that point. My towing rpm is 1800-1900. The US Gear does a good job. I'm sure the Gear/vender does also but this is my choice.
Good luck.
Preston
