I can't stand these 4. 10's and want to swap them out for some 3. 73's. The truck has the anti-spin differential. I only get about 15mpg on the highway. I used to get 21mpg with my 02. Has anyone done this and how much trouble, time and money does it require? Thanks in advance.

Having to change both gear sets is gonna be spendy, have you considered going with an overdrive unit. I know thats even more money but you'd have a great setup for towing and solo driving too.

Or, maybe someone here with 3. 73's would trade with you!

Don't expect a 10% change in gearing to make a 40% change in milage. I got 19 MPG with my 01. 5 NV5600 with 4. 10's and 20 MPG with my 04. 5 NV5600 with 3. 73's. I think your milage reduction is caused by something other than the rear end gearing.

What do you think it could be? I am not mashing the pedal. What else did you have done to yours. I have the NV5600 also.

I can get 19 mpg at legal speeds in my 05 with 4. 10's. You may not be driving as easy as you think ;)

I've changed my 03 from 4. 1 to 3. 73, about $1250ish, but before that I put 315 tires on the stock wheels. Overall I went from 2330 rpm at 70 to 1928. I ended up selling the original gears for 250. Very happy with the 20% rpm reduction. I barely hear the engine on the freeway, and hardly ever go over 2000 rpm. Mileage is around 20. You may find someone in classifieds wanting to swap gears and do it for a lot less than me.

I drive 72-73mph.

Ah Houston, we have a problem! Once you go about 63-65 MPH, the mileage drops SIGNIFICANTLY!! That's been my experience on every Dodge CTD I have owned.

Now, I KNOW there are folks on here that will tell you that they get "run off the road" if they don't do 85 mph pulling their 20k 5ver but if you don't mind the trip taking an extra 10-15 minutes, you will improve your MPG by lifting just a little bit.

Huskerman.

I'm probably about to change my 3. 73's to 4. 10's to make up for the 35" tires I put on Monday. :)

Yea, I said I'd wait a year, but I just spent like $4K on lift/tires/install, so what's another $1500?

My guess is by next week I'll have the new gears ordered, and 2 weeks after that I will probably have 'em installed. Oo.

If you still want some 3. 73's after that, you can just "HAVE" my old ones if I end up doing it. Oo. Oo.
