I am planning on purchasing a 2006 or 2007 2500 or 3500 4wd 6spd... ... 50% of time using it empty, 50% pulling 4 horses and gear for mountains/hunting/camping etc.

First, am I correct in assuming I will be looking at a G56 with . 79 sixth gear?

Secondly, I am aware of the pros/cons of a gear vendor OD/UD unit. What are some prices you are hearing for a new GV unit as well as installation and additional parts needed, ie driveline, etc... ? You know, like going to the hospital, need to know the Doctor Bill, the XRAY BILL, the CLINIC BILL, the THERAPY BILL..... in other words the whole deal!!

Thanks,

Thanks,
Gearvendors in El Cajon,Ca quoted $4,000 installed for one to fit an '07 G-56 2500 4wd.

I bought mine from Pacific Clutch & Brake they gave me an excellent price, thanks again Jim, Jim is a TDR member an goes by "jelag" should you want to contact him. I priced a few local shops here for the install and got quotes from $500 to $800 including the drive shaft mods and balancing, if you are a do it yourself and a good mechanic it is a very easy install and all you would need is a good drive shaft shop, also Gear Vendors has great customer support and are very helpful. It's a great addition to the G-56, would'nt drive with out it. James.

Not sure where you are located. GV in El Cajon installed two for me and I was very satisfied and impressed with all the staff. Unitrax in Anahiem CA also does installs.

Can you pull with the Gearvendors unit? A couple guys checked into it on "the other" Dodge website and they said Gearvendors would not warranty their product if you pull with it... .

I pull an enclosed trailer carrying a mobile dynomometer, motorcycles and gear weighing in at 9500 lbs in 5th OD, it puts my rpms at 2200 witch is about 25 less than in 6th without OD, 70 mph 14 mpg hand calc and egts at 700 (seems to be the sweet spot). 6th OD puts my rpms at 1750 but my egts are at about 900 and it feels like lugging a bit.

I've towed with both of my trucks using the Gear Vendor. Warranty should not be an issue. I've never had a problem with either unit.

Gearvendor impression.

I just rode in my friend's '07 w/G-56 and GV. RPM's are down about 450 rpm at highway speed. Nice shifting unit. Quality install by GV in El Cajon,Ca. They shortened up the driveshaft and painted it like it should have come from Dodge initially.

The 800 # for gearvendor in CA is800-999-9555 they should be able to get you info on the nearest gearvendor dealer.
that will at least get you started with the dealer price.
I looked on e bay and there isn't much GV stuff there.
good luck
