Had a great first time dragging this morning (3 runs before the track shut down)!

Did a forum search but nobody comments on the Gear Vendors except for pulling loads... Was wondering if the OD unit would improve over the 3-4 shift during 1/4 mile run. With 3. 54 gears, 4th does not seem optimal for those runs, and I thought it might be better (and cool! :D) to manually kick in 3rd over at about 2800-3000 rpm instead of regular 4th gear (mine hits at about 3200). Does GV shift too slow to be a benefit, or is there something else I'm not seeing?

I'm not sure but I think you can set them up to shift under full throttle since it is a pressurized unit. It's also rated for 1000 hp and can be built to handle more. I know gassers use them for racing all the time.

djbobo,

Yea, I hear about gassers using them too. I'm wondering why more diesels guys don't use it, and my hunch is that for almost $3k, we would generally be more inclined to spend that money on more air/fuel! ;) Any other opinions out there?

don't quote me but

I mentioned "Gear Vendors Overdrive" to a well-known very high HP Cummins guy and he replied that it wouldn't hold up to his level of power. I think he knows what he is talking about.

That being said, I think it would handle most of our trucks. Just not the big-daddy beasts that lurk out there--like say maybe over 600 RWHP.

Not naming names and not bashing a product. I'm just repeating what I've heard from a good source about limitations to that particular product.

Every product has limitations. ;)
