gear vendor
I put a gear vendor in my 1 ton dually 4x4 86 chev, 12v 6bt, th400, 3. 73 gears, back in `92. It`s the neetest thing since free sex and cold beer! it has been dependable for the last 16 years. only had to replace the controller once, changed the oil a few times, been a good unit. The best thing about the g/v over the other unit, is you can shift it while pulling a load full throttle, WITHOUT lifting. really great for splitting gears on a hill. I`ve pulled lots of loads 18,000 to 22,000 lbs, no problems. the reason they told you to use 4wd, was to make sure the o/d is OFF. when you shift into 4x4, the controller locks out yhe o/d. if you have a 2wd truck, you HAVE to make SURE the o/d is off, BEFORE you back up. I think their new controller is hooked to the back up light circuit, to do the same thing as the 4x4 switch on the t/case. Put in a G/V you`ll be glad you did. :-laf:-laf
