Super Phat Shaft 62 Bites The Dust!!!!

If you have a factory overdrive transmission and a 4. 30, 4. 10, 3. 73, or 3. 54 rear and are thinking the Gear Vendors will get you better mileage when towing - we would not agree. It is false economy to think you can tow a heavy load with just 1/2 an engine revolution per tire turn. Staying at 50mph and below are the best ways to save fuel and wear on your truck because the aero load of the typical trailer is 1/2 at 60 what is at 75mph. Factory overdrive + Gear Vendors is perfect for when the truck is not towing, but when you are towing the aerodynamics require horsepower. The UNDER/OVERDRIVE™ can be extremely beneficial and capable of delivering hundreds of thousands of miles within these limits

thats straight off the web site... i agree with them fully and just see no point in adding more money into parts that are not off the shelf... in the end i see it as a waste, and think one could do better with a tad bit taller tire...

thats what i ended up doing, but i also have more gear selection/control... . with the 6 shooter... .

I have been very satisfied with a Gear Vendors OD on my 01 truck towing a 10-12K 5th wheel, although my situation was far different than yours. My axle ratio is 3. 54 and the stock truck didn't have enough power to stay in 4th gear (it would kick down to 3rd at about 60 mph) on any kind of grade. The GV gave me a perfect gear ratio for towing at 60-70, although any mileage gain was insignificant. My power problem diminished greatly after I added a Banks Big Hoss module and 4" exhaust, but I still use the GV when towing. It also gives me good mileage on level and downhill driving when unloaded (1400 RPM @ 70 mph).

they have plenty of pros and cons. it has a different overdrive ratio then the stock trans. you could tow in 3rd and g/v overdrive and have a different rpm then 4th gear. I love mine when empty. I can cruise at 75 with less rpm than just factory ratio. double overdrive is nice when empty.
