Gearvendors vs US Overdrive? What's the maximum reccomended horsepower / torque, towing weight ratings and other pros/cons for these overdrive units. Planning on using a 700r4 or a built 700r4 transmission behind a ~350hp-850ftlb 4bt cummins with a Atlas II 4-speed 4wd transfercase if possible.

From the Gear Vendors' web site, "GEAR VENDORS provides overdrive product to racing cars and trucks up to 2000hp and trucks towing heavy RV’s up to 25,000lbs gcvw." I have used gear vendors with a big block Chevy without problems. Visit the Gear Vendors' website, they have good customer support. I have a new one in a box waiting for the next project that needs one. It will hold up to anything a built 700R4 will handle by a large margin.

Thanks jghflys, I was just worried about over loading it when hauling cattle,pulling a heavy RV, or limited 4x4 use.

GV does not recommend the use of their product behind a 4BT.

I don't mean to question things but why would GV make an adapter to the Allison 1000 6.6 Duramax pairing and then recommend against putting a GV behind a 4BT ? As it would take extensive modification to make a 4BT have the same power levels as a stock 6.6 Duramax, I must be missing something somewhere.

It has to do with the pulses the firing order of the 4bt sends out. This has been discussed over in the 4bt swaps website. People looked to use it, contacted GV tech support and told them their plans, and they said it would be prone to failure. Give them a call or Shoot them an email to confirm.
