Every time I turn on the t. v. there seems to be a Geico commercial on. Then they run a consecutive one. I think I figured out how they pay for those after I called them for a quote a few months ago. It was double of what I am paying for Farm Bureau! I'm just curious if any of ya'll out there have Geico and are seeing any savings like they claim. Maybe they made a mistake on my quote;who knows.

Bull,

I've had Texas Farm Bureau insurance for many years. The rates are very competetive(no tickets) and the service from the agent and claims people is second to no one. They have both my vehicle and homeowners insurance.

I've had some experience with Geico claims dept. One of their insured hit my truck(bumper/fender bender) in '97. After that experience, there's no way would I ever go to them--no matter what the price!!!

Can't complain about Farm Bureau. When I totaled my truck(98 in 98)on a tree they payed for it. Son totaled his 95 chevy and they covered it. They didn't drop us and rates went up very, very little. They have been very fast to settle a claim.

AAHHH, it's the INSURO-NAZI'S! Many years ago, I drove into a Geico agency to discuss purchasing an auto policy. From the window, the agent spotted my radar detector. As I walked in, his head started shaking! He stated, "We will not do business with anyone who owns a radar detector. " And I've never given them the opportunity again, either!

My other blacklisted insurance company is AIG. They sent me a letter begging me to give them a shot at my business. I did. As I went through the list of vehicles I owned (six at the time), I mentioned my 1996 Isuzu Trooper. The agent stated, "Sorry we won't insure ANY of your vehicles, if you own one of THOSE!" (This was right after the bogus Consumer Reports rollover deal, since reversed. ) They'll never see any of my money!

BTW: Both couldn't touch Farmer's anyway!

Thats good to know there rates are as high a a giraffes butt. I figured as much, after all, they have to pay for all that advertising.

The one and only time I called them for a quote the lady asked me if I had a radar detector in the vehicle. I told her yes. That ended the conversation. She almost hung-up.

I tried to get a quote a few years back, but they only wanted to insure the car and pick up. Wouldn't even talk about motorcycles, trailers , boats. Take away all the various discounts including home owners and they can't even come close. Now that I am getting the farm bureau discount from the insurer I have been with for over 30 years (Nationwide) and it is evevn harder to beat. Then their is the claims, I think they are the ones who had a policy holder hit the wifes car and wanted to tell us where and when to show up just for an estimate, at theis convience, when she balked they finally came to the house and did the adjustment. I wouldn't give them the time of day.

I remember that article about the "Geico Guns".
I will never trust them; I hardly "trust" my
current insurer but it's the Law so everyone
must ante up.

Too bad, I like their commercials.

Your quote is probably right. They quoted me 40% more for less than half the coverage I currently have. Last ticket I got was in 1984 and no accidents.

Car & Driver magazine had an article years ago about Gieco. Seems Gieco sends some of its proceeds in a donation to police departments to buy speed control devices, such as VASCAR, RADAR, etc.

The low rates turn into high rates if you get a ticket. Once you have high rates, you are listed as high risk, and will have trouble finding insurance elsewhere. Thus Gieco "traps" you and charges for their service at a higher rate than before.

Further, Gieco and Progressive are great rates, but what about the service? I would much rather have a local agent who (in my experience) will work to get the best coverage at the best rates and provide the best service when something happens. My particular agent even told lawyers to get lost when they came sniffing for more money after an accident my brother had.

I called them once for a quote and they wouldn't write me when I told them I was self-employed! I guess if you have it together they're scared of you!

Farm Bureau rates skyrocketed and charged me for an accident I didn't cause. I went to Progressive at 1/2 the cost of Farm Bureau.

Got a quote form Geico, they were more than Farm Bureau.

Give Progressive a call, very reasonable rates.
