The stock exhaust on my 2K has given up the ghost, busted off just before the muffler (turbo sounds cool now) and is a zephyr loud. I want to put on an after-market 4" stainless but am leary of it being to loud. As much as I love the bark of the open pipe and hearing the turbo sing, I don't want it 24/7. Any suggestions on good systems that sound good, high quality yet not excessively loud?

Thanks Guys!

I have heard the MBRP sysltem. It sounds good & really not any louder than stock. I'd say the same about my Banks 4" pipes. Different tone than stock but not louder & no droning at speed either.

The MBRP systems have had a big problem with a drone developing at around 1800 RPM. You must have not rode in that truck very long. Mine will pretty much drive you nuts at 65 and above. I haven't been happy at all with this system - customer service is probably the worst I've ever experienced and you've gotta spend the $800 on a 304 system before you can get one that doesn't collect rust spots.

I wish I had just gone with an aluminized system from Rip. Stainless is really unnecessary in most parts and the odds are, most of us won't keep our trucks for more than 5 or 6 years and any good aluminized system will last you that long.

Go with Rip's system - some money and get a quality product. I've never heard the first complaint with one of his exhaust systems. Do a search on exhaust systems and you'll see that his name is recommended more than anyone's.

No, I didn't ride in the MBRP equipped truck so I can't comment on it's drone. The no drone is from my banks system. The spots on 409 stainless aren't rust but carbon that migrates to the surface. it's only a cosmetic concern. You are right about Rip's system as a best buy system.

Well I don't mean to get into a technical argument, but I've been told by MBRP and others than 409SS is what's called a "magnetic" stainless and it will "attract" water spots that will rust. I've never heard the carbon explanation and it doesn't seem to fit in with what I've been told.

Whatever it is, it is the color of rust, it feels like rust, and you still have to scrub like crazy to try and get it off, just like rust...

I don't really have the expertise to "argue". I'm only relaying information I have read. I can say that after 2 winter seasons with much salt my 409 ss system has a few spots like my old OEM system did but it's a surface condition & can be scrubbed off smooth, but why bother? I have also read that 409 is more malleable than 304 & therefore is less susceptible to fatigue cracking.
