what ever happened to illflem?

advice

I have a friend who owns a home building business. He bought a Generac form Home Depot, took it to a site, and it fried itself before he even hooked up a load. Took it back, tried another one, it too died after little use. He ended up with a Honda, which still runs well. Might be an isolated case, but who knows.

Sorry to hear that about the Generac. Which model was it? They use different motors in different models - no Hondas. I've considered those as we live in hurricane country. They can be wired into the main panel and come online automatically when a power outage occurs. Runs on propane which is a nice feature.

How about a Kohler with a little Cummins in it?

my dad has an 8000 watt unit. (special outfit sold only at home depot) electric start, auto idler, trickle charger, 1 into 4 extension cord. - really nice setup. works great. it can sit for 6 months and then start right up. it has delt with direct shorts which just tripped the onboard breakers. reset them and everything was fine. also has a 12 volt 10 amp output for battery charging.

they have their own engine design and it has an oil filter. you will also find that their generator section has the lowest "harmonic distortion" rating, which means it is as clean a sine-wave as you can get in a small generator. it's safer for electronic equipment.

We've got a Generac 6500 on our newest fire truck. Its got OHV and a spin on oil filter. Its electric start wired into the truck batteries. For three years its been perfect at every fire. Instant starts, smooth operation and no failures of anykind.

Just for thought... some high end ZTR mowers like Dixie Chopper are using Generac engines.
