Vacuum Assist Brake Controler Question

Vintage RV's

emarsh does your Onan run your house OK?

I understand the derate issue. Diesel units are rated at 500 ft elevation with 85 F ambient air temperature. Does your unit start your largest load at your house OK? What size is your largest motor load that you can start on it? Have you used it for several days at one time? Do you have to do anything special to your hose to reduce peak load when you are on the Onan generator? Anything else I should think about prior to committing to by this generator? Thanks Ken Irwin

Won't the rear axle on your truck be overloaded? 100 gallons of fuel plus the genset pulling your fiver. I took a look at the pic of your rig, the HR fiver had a slideout in the bedroom too.

You don't need to run the generator at home 24/7 during a power outage. My frig is hooked up to a UPS with 2 group 27 batteries it runs fine for a day and recharges when I run the generator. My generator at home is a 8KW runs off a 250 gallon propane tank, don't have to worry about keeping fresh fuel, ect. I have it set up on a table, in our shed. A 24 X 24 building and the exhaust goes throuh the side wall. Can't hear it running.

After Opel we stayed in the 5th wheel for four days.

It would be nice to have a large genset, but I can get by with out it.

Good luck!

My Holiday Rambler and rear axle GAWR

My trailer is a pull behind vice a fifth wheel. I have a lot of capacity left on the rear axle even with another 800 lbs. I should have about 500 lbs left to my 12,000 GVWR which is my closest limit at this point. The front axle on the other hand is close without the trailer, I actually lose about 200 lbs off the front axle when I hook up to the trailer. With the truck empty, I only have 160 lbs left to GAWR on the front axle with all fuel tanks full. Thats why the generator will set directly over the rear axle. Thanks for the reply. Ken Irwin

I ordered the generator

Based on some feed back from Cummins/Onan factory representatives, I ordered the Commercial Mobile 12 Kw generator. Its the same physical set up as the RV generator set but has a 2 year/2000 hour warranty vice a 3 year warranty. They are concerned with it being mounted in the back of the pickup might jeapordize my warranty as that would not be a "RV application". I'm not sure why it wouldn't be an RV application (I would use it to power my RV) but that's what the factory's concern is. By the way I learned that they are just coming out with the Kubota powered generator sets. They are discontinuing the Isuzu powered generator sets. The remote panels won't work with the new sets according to my sources so far, so no remote reading oil pressure/water temperature/DC volt meter set up. I guess the new sets are about 160 lbs heavier than the Isuzu powered generator sets. Should be here by the end of the week. Ken Irwin

Its in the bed of my truck!!

Well I got it mounted in the bed of my truck. Should have it up and running be the end if the weekend. I had to put a 12" X 18" hole in the floor and an odd shaped 7" X 10" hole for engine ventilation and one 3" diameter hole for the alternator's cooling air. I need to put one more hole to allow draining the oil from the engine but I only have drilled a pilot hole so far for that location. I still haven't mounted a battery to start it. It is mounted over the axle on the passengers side about 3" from the right inner fender. The holes basically are just in front of the 3rd cross member and just behind the 4th cross member. These two cross members are just in front and just behind the tires. I'll try to get some pictures posted. Ken Irwin
