Any ideas?

I bought a Generac 4000XL from Home Depot a year and a half ago. It is noisy, no argument there, but it functions as intended. It will start and run my 15k ac unit and microwave oven along with the converter load and will run all night on one tank of fuel. I had a local fabricator/welder build a strong mount to hang it on the back of my 5er and an upholstery shop stitch up a tight cover to protect it. If you or a friend or family member are an eligible senior citizen Home Depot, at least in my city, offers a 10% discount on Tuesdays.

We'll both be overwhelmed with all the replies that claim a Honda/Yamaha is better and quieter and I don't disagree with them but for my needs and what I wanted to spend the Generac is a practical solution.

My 5er was built generator ready with a ventilated compartment, automatic changeover switch and other equipment built-in. If I was willing to spend the money an Onan would be the ideal solution but my air conditioner and microwave like the ac power made by the noisy and cheap Generac just as well as they would like a Honda or Onan. It's your money.

I own the sears model you have selected. I have no problems with it. If you are going to use it at a camp ground the folks around you might not like it to much. I use mine at the drag strip. It works great and meets my needs. It is not real noisy but it might be when people around you are trying to sleep! You could probably add a better muffler to it and make it quiter though.

I have also had a cheap generator, worked fine. As long as you are out in the middle of nowhere noise is not a big deal. But then there the idiots that park in a rest area or in a truck stop and fire one of these up. I was parked at a rest area in Colorado sleeping and someone pulled in parked right next to me dragged his Coleman generator out and fired it up. The rest area was almost empty so he could have parked away from everyone bot no. I sat and listned to it and then asked hime to please shut it off and was basically told too bad and he was just a jerk about it :-{} . So I moved my truck to get some sleep. A few hours later I was leaving so I went over and unplugged his cord :-laf :-laf and took the plug adapter and tossed it in the bed of his truck ;) . Maybe he will learn some courtesy :D . OK off my soap box, as long as the noise does not bother a neighbor I agree and also would not spend the $$$ for a honda, that is if the use is limited.
