Generator

I bought a new Emerald 5. 5 KW from Cummins Southeast in November, installed in my TailGator for $3400. It's quit and can run everthing Including an outdoor electric smoker. I added foam insulation around the sheet metal box from the inside and the sound is very low.

Because the two EU2000s are EACH smaller/lighter than the EU3000. This is going to sound bad but don't take it the wrong way please. I'm 32, 6'4"/255lb and I can load my EU3000 into the back of my truck or trailer - both are ~waist high - by myself - BARELY. The 135lb EU3000 is a bit difficult to get a hold of by myself but I can do it for now. I'm guessing that a lot of folks would not be able to load/unload the EU3000 by themselves but the EU2000 is much smaller/lighter.

Yes there is a little more maint cost on two, but two that are not working as hard as one might not be that much more.

I think the best part of dual EU2000s is that if you only need to take one of them, it is alot smaller. Two take up less space than one EU3000.

And as far as not being able to run together, NOT TRUE.

The eu2000 is rated at 2000 watts surge, 1600 continuous. So in theory, two of them in parallel should make 4000 surge, 3200 continuous. The eu3000 is rated at 2800 watts continuous, 3000 surge. That puts the power advantage of the two ue2000 at 1000 watts surge, 400 watts continuous and 2 db more noise, and the parallel cables are expensive too.

runnuing two generators

I am curious as how to get the generators in phase. I have work for a power plant for 15 years, diesel and steam generation. I dont pretend to know every thing about electric generation. The units are in phase, the voltage need to be the same. If the units are out of phase you can slip a pole.

Depending on how the motor is made the starting current may be 1 and half or more than runing current. There are ways to help this. I like the Honda engines, and I like the generators that are wound to turn 1800 rps.

My dad has a Diesel lincoln welder and it generates 120 and 220. It is several Kw, I saw a diesel generator that I think was a volkswagon engine and a generator on ebay lol Jim

Same here. Its not a good thing lifting that bulky thing up to tailgate level. Sooner or later the back is gonna slip a disc.

The plus side of the 3000 is one unit to gas up & maintain. Thats about all that i can think of off hand.

Two 2000's would yield a little more power & be easy to move around. Also only need one most of the time.

They supposedly sync up using their inverters, and give very clean power even w/ 2 together. Much cleaner & more full phase power than a standard generator. Whatever the db rating is, all i know is we've even had rangers comment on how quiet the thing is. If you find a place to set it in a cubbyhole, you can run it all day in a campground, and people cant even hear it. Also theyre very good on gas. Our Eu 3k averages about 13 hours on 3. 5 gallons. Depends on load.

Not putting down the onan or some other high end units, as theyre good also. Just like the portability, quietness, & toughness of the honda.

inverter

The inverter ( hvdc) is the way the company that I work for ties ok to texas to send power.

There is a guy who works there who is or was a labor for 15 years and he was told to take care of his back. He too was trying to pick up to much weight and yes he did one to many times. When he got over it he was told to take care of his back as that was his only thig he had going for him.

Anybody got a recommendation on a shop to get the EU3000 wheel kit from? I think www.hondashop.com has it for $95. 00. My Patio Hauler 5th wheel uses moving ramps for loading the bikes so it would be really easy to roll the generator up instead of lifting it.

Actually, I may still have a honda wheel kit for the eu3000 that if I have it, Ill trade it for the stock rubber feet & a few bucks.

Ill take a look in the shed, & give you a PM if you want. Not sure I still have it. hope so.

jimk, These type's of generators do not have to be in phase when hooked together. There is no gen set involved with this inverter technology. The gas motor turns a alternator internal to the generator this alternator only produces 12 vdc, the conversion is done by the inverter ( DC to AC ) the AC current is a true sine-wave and very pure. These little generator are really neat, I have a EU2000 and it runs the air cond on my slide in with no problems. I also take a portable PC when camping this generator produces such clean DC power that it works better on the generator than at home. Gunny

The new EU1000's and EU3000's have the awesome ability to be hooked together for twice the power! Yes, you can get two-thousand watts (EU1000's) or six-thousand watts (EU3000's) with barely any noise and weight! The inverter technology allows these units to be hooked in parallel. You won't find this anywhere else. $24. 95. www.hondashop.com

:--) I still do not understand people quoting a high cost for this cable, are they confusing it with a disconnect box or something??? SNOKING

Click here for the same info on the EU2000 showing the price of the cable over $200. The parallel cable for the 2000 and 3000 are similiar if not identical. The cable for the 1000 is much simpler. I don't know why they are so expensive, but they are. The link you are using for the Honda Shop is only pricing the cable on the 1000.

I looked at the hondashop website and I think I see what's causing the confusion... it appears that they sell "parallel cable adapters" for the 2000/3000 units... these are 35 bucks... upon closer investigation it seems these are not the cables themselves, but required "plugs" which are used to connect the cable to the genset. If this is the case, that cable setup looks like it will be 300 when all is said and done... Hopefully snoking will get the skinny on this for us...
