I searched but didn't much on TDR. I'm referring to the kit where the plenum under the glovebox is modified to accept a filter.

I think it's a good idea, but I'm curious to know if it hampers airflow. Anyone notice a severe drop in air flow after the install?

I remember when I pulled the dash on my 04.5 to replace the blend doors. The evaporator fins we're caked with dirt/mud.

I put one on my truck. Cutting the access is a PITA - no doubt about that.

Did not notice a huge difference in airflow. It drops a bit but not bad IMO.

I didn't notice any decrease HVAC airflow in my truck.

After seeing what the filter looked like after 6 months (dirty), I think this is a MUST HAVE upgrade. I can't understand why it isn't standard equipment!

I changed all the doors on my '06 last year and after reading about how everyone's were caked like yours, I figured after 180K miles and 7 years mine would be the same. When I split the plenum, it looked brand new inside, minus the broken doors.

I also purchased the diy kit for my '14. I just haven't had time to install it yet.

I put the kit in my 2011. Didn't notice any difference in airflow, then again I don't run the fan on high. I'll be installing the kit on the 2016 before I hit dusty areas in the spring.

I have installed the kit in both '14 trucks HVAC not change much, sure collects the dirt really good, change twice a year. Not really that hard to install just take your time.

The only real concern I have is the reduced airflow. It's so flipping hot here in summer (100+) everyday for 4/5 months, so my A/C get's a workout.

The cutting looks like a real pisser for sure. I might try to apply some sort of sealant tape to the filter cover so that the new opening is tight. Probably overkill, but i'm a perfectionist by habit.

Looks like the consensus is that it doesn't hamper air flow significantly.

I am ordering the kit soon.

How did you folks cut the hole? Hot knife or dremel?

Hot knife or dremel?
Neither. I used a sharp utility knife. I didn't attempt to cut it in one pass. Instead, I just kept going over the same cut a few times until the blade went through.

After I got the main chunk of plastic out, I carefully trimmed up the edges with the same utility knife.

Piece-O-Cake!

Ditto that, just takes a sharp utility knife blade and taking your time. Cutting isn't difficult, was a bit awkward to get to though IMO.

Thanks for the insights on cutting the hole - kit has been ordered!

Edit: I should say Kit has been "back ordered"! Oh well, hopefully it will come some day soon.

I used a utility knife with sharp blade, run over area of groove several times to get clean cut, just take your time will turn out straight.

I am not really able to do the work anymore. How about the filter that goes over the vent opening? Genos "Cab Fresh Filter Kit"
