Well now that I have a NV5600 I guess I have an excuse to hang around the lotsa valves forum once in a while.

My old exhaust brake switch that was on the shift lever doesn't fit on the 5600's lever. Does anyone have the shifter knob from Genos that has the switch inside the knob? How deep is the switch recessed? Does your hand accidently hit it while shifting? Is it a push ON push again for OFF or does it just stay on while you hold it?

Any info is greatly appreciated,

Mike

I bought it & once I saw I sent it back. Small micro switch with a 2 piece plastic knob. I wasn' t impressed with the quality at all.

Needless to say, I have a Pac-Brake shifter switch wired into my truck. I wired in between the Jacobs (always on) dash switch with quick connects. If the Pac-Brake switch goes out, I can disconnect it & run my my brake from the dash switch.

That knob was designed and built by one of our members in San Diego county,Fred Danner. It works very well and I haven't seen any with problems. It is black plastic, much like the original equipment offering. I have no issues not hitting the switch when shifting, and there is no rattling issues like some switches bragged about on this site :-laf

I must say that I have that switch and would not have any other. It is convenient, and not in the way. Have never hit it accidently. The only thing that I would like to have is a light to let me know that the switch is on.

The e-brake switch knob from Genos's works very well. The knob feels solid in the hand & there is no problem pushing the button by accident. It's a push on push again off type switch. I rigged up an LED from Radio Shack for an indicator light on the dash.

heres my E-brake switch I got from pac-brake. I have the 6 speed

I mounted it so I can rotate my thumb to the switch when my hand is on the knob... .

That is a nice switch. Most of the side mounted switches that I have seen are the big red pull knobs. With your set up, you still have the six speed print on the gear shift knob. I do like the push button from Geno's. Although I would like the six speed pattern printed on the knob and a lighted button. As far a functionability, the Geno's is right there in a natural location. Yours is also very pleasant and professional looking and also in a convenient location. What is that guage that I see in your dash? Looking for guages as my next project.

Thats an LED Indicator that has 2 LED lights. 1 of them is a warning for Water in fuel at the Racor pre-filter and one is a warning for Filter restriction at the racor as well.

The guage is mounted on a panel I make out of 1/8" ABS plastic. I make them for the 3rd gen as well in the long hole... . See the classifieds.

I also have the Geno's switch, it works great!!! Where can I get that switch in the pic??? I need one for my Gear Vendor's O/D unit.

The only problem with the pac brake switch is that it gets hot when using it for warmup or when towing and on a long hill. I had it on while putting on chains in -10* weather and when I got the fronts done I got back in to warm up before doing the rears, and with cold hands didn't feel the hot switch I was resting my thumb on untill I had burnt it. By the end of the day it blisterd and was throbbing pretty good against the snowmobile throttle. Jake

shift knob from Genos

I have one of the first knobs that Fred made, I bought it from him. I have it hooked up to a Jacobs that I bought thru a dealer. The knob works great! I have never had any trouble with it. Yes it made out of plastic, and I like it a lot. I hauled a John Deere 5420 from Texas to Colorado, on a 24 ft goose neck, this past summer, and used the exhaust brake all the way and never had any trouble from the switch. I would buy another, if the need came up. Try it, you'll like it. :D
