A couple of weeks ago I went on a rant about Geno's not wanting to service folks in Canada anymore. Today was the first chance I had to get back to Robin after her email to me. (We're having a stat holiday in the Territories - Aboriginal Heritage Day - hope more ethnic groups try to get a stat holiday. )
Anyway, Robin was great to talk to. It was a very positive conversation. She is really open to constuctive criticism/suggestions. Great to see that.
As she indicated in my rant thread, the costs due to extra charges and lost items were making it difficult, if not impossible, to justify business in Canada. We talked about the various methods of delivery and the "hidden" costs. Courier being most expensive and ground postal usually the most reliable even if the slowest.
So we're going to try to get an order to me by ground postal service. The only additional charges after it leaves Geno's will be the goods and services tax (GST) which is added on. Under NAFTA there aren't any other duties or fees if the item is made in N. A. The postal service says it could be as much as 21 days. My experience in the north is 10 - 14 days (unless the plane from Yellowknife has too much freight, then it could be another few days). I imagine Robin and the crew (5) at Geno's will continue to explore options to serve Canadians. If they can do it without losing money, better if they can make some (that's what they're in business for), who knows, maybe they'll do cross border business again. Here's hoping, cause I want to patronize Geno's.
Kudos to Robin, and those who answered the phone, for their friendly, open and professional manner.
