A couple of weeks ago I went on a rant about Geno's not wanting to service folks in Canada anymore. Today was the first chance I had to get back to Robin after her email to me. (We're having a stat holiday in the Territories - Aboriginal Heritage Day - hope more ethnic groups try to get a stat holiday. )

Anyway, Robin was great to talk to. It was a very positive conversation. She is really open to constuctive criticism/suggestions. Great to see that.

As she indicated in my rant thread, the costs due to extra charges and lost items were making it difficult, if not impossible, to justify business in Canada. We talked about the various methods of delivery and the "hidden" costs. Courier being most expensive and ground postal usually the most reliable even if the slowest.

So we're going to try to get an order to me by ground postal service. The only additional charges after it leaves Geno's will be the goods and services tax (GST) which is added on. Under NAFTA there aren't any other duties or fees if the item is made in N. A. The postal service says it could be as much as 21 days. My experience in the north is 10 - 14 days (unless the plane from Yellowknife has too much freight, then it could be another few days). I imagine Robin and the crew (5) at Geno's will continue to explore options to serve Canadians. If they can do it without losing money, better if they can make some (that's what they're in business for), who knows, maybe they'll do cross border business again. Here's hoping, cause I want to patronize Geno's.

Kudos to Robin, and those who answered the phone, for their friendly, open and professional manner.

Right On

Glad to see they are doing their best for you. I figured they would. Great people who truely care. Geno's is :D Oo. :D

Glad you set the record straight. I know Robert envisioned Geno's to be the best in customer service.

I wonder why this is? At work, we use UPS exclusively and have many customers in B. C. and Alberta. Granted, UPS is pretty proud of their service going to Canada but it gets there. Besides, UPS automatically insures every package up to $100 when you send it. You can insure it for more, it's pretty cheap. I must be missing something, because I can't see a reason not to send products to people who are asking for them... That is why you open shop in the first place, isn't it?

JLinder, your experience with UPS is something I wish we'd had at my old job. Using UPS added substantially to our import costs. What charges do they add on? Have you checked to make sure they are "necessary"?

Importing from Canada? They don't add any costs on, but UPS does not work in Canada. They take it to the border, then hand it off to another outfit (not sure who). They don't add any charges on, but I know you can ship something coast to coast cheaper than across the border. I imagine the increased cost is to cover the customs paper work and such. Most of the time when we ship something out (parts), it does next day. Of course, it doesn't arrive the next day if going to Canada. Usually something sent next day into Canada arrives in two days if it's just across the border (B. C. & Alberta from where we are).

Maybe one of you Canadians can work out a Geno's francise for Canada. That would help the customs, shipping and product loss problems.
